Hello all,

I got my $900 Civic up and running and FINALLY got it to pass smog (Went early in the morning and passed with nothing to spare on the HC's)

To my knowledge this leak wasn't there when my father and I installed the head from the wrecked HX onto this one (The old HX didn't leak at all). I noticed a couple oil drips under the car any time I park it somewhere. So I cleaned it up and tried to follow it back to the source and it seems to be giving me the slip.

(From reverse order)The oil drips from the flywheel plate cover, runs up along the front of the motor over the engine stamp, and then it SEEMS to run in between the slight crevice between the head and the motor all the way to the other side of the motor by the timing cover/camshaft but after that I have no idea where it is coming from.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to look when I inevitably pull it apart? Maybe there's more than one. :/ The head had 192k on it when I pulled it from the crashed HX and the block I put it onto has 215k so these parts aren't exactly spring chickens anymore. However, the crashed HX had been meticulously taken care of and had regular maintenance done on it whereas the donor motor I have no record of anything ever being done on it.

Probably the distributor, but also could be the valve cover or head gasket.

You may have multiple leaks. I would check the distributor seal first, then cam seal, then rear main seal in that order.

It is probably the valve cover gasket or dizzy o ring like stated above. Did you use Honda bond or blue goo when you installed valve cover?

I certainly hope it's not the head gasket - just put a new one in when I swapped the heads.
Alright, I'll take a look at the distributor seal (It'll be the easiest to get to) first thing tomorrow.

Might have to make a run to the stealership and buy some Honda OEM parts!

Per the instructions that came with the valve cover gasket I put some gasket sealant on the two humps of the valve cover gasket - 100% positive it was blue. I think it was Permatex?

Well, the Honda dealership tried to upsell me a distributor housing instead of the damn gasket and the local parts store doesn't have them either so to eBay I went!

Now I'm just going to have to wait until the part gets here. :/

I dunno why they couldn't just look up the part # for the o-ring which is 30110-PC6-005. Hope that fixes it for you.

Because if I'm going to pull off the distributor im going to do it the right way and replace the inner seal too which is not sold as an individual piece from the dealership.

Thanks I just went and looked then realized that there is an inner seal too, I guess I just missed it because they don't show it on the diagrams.

Pulled the distributor off - oh yeah, it's leaking. Bad.

Now I tried to get the seal off by going through the shaft, but the whole thing disintegrated and now it looks like the lip of the outside of the gasket is stuck still in the housing. Any tips on something that can get it out? :/

Huh, I guess that was part of the seal in the picture I got behind it with a screwdriver again and whacked it out with a rubber mallet. Came out eventually.

However, the ebay seal I got (Supposedly NOK brand ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/180511052139...84.m1497.l2649 )) didn't quite fit and it was a bit too big so after I tried using a 14mm socket to push it in the outsides ripped. So I ended up just using some RTV Gasket Maker around the outside for the time being. :/ Hopefully it'll stop the leak, because it definitely was a problem. Also, the replacement NOK O-Ring is about half the width, hope that's not going to be a problem either. I guess this kit just sucks.

I'll let it go for a week and report back on how the ghetto gasket works.

I have never gone that far into a dizzy so idk, but there should be a write up on it try google.

Oh well. I'll see if the oil leak continues.
