My son was away at camp and his 96 Honda Civic wouldn't start. They push started it (5 speed) and that worked but after a couple of times that stopped working. They used starting fluid which got the car to turn over but only while the starting fluid was applied. My son replaced the fuel pump and fuel pump relay at a friend's insistence (and against my advice-guessing instead of trouble shooting) and that did nothing as well. I drove there and briefly looked at the car but since I had no tools or real place to work on the car, I towed it home. Once here, while letting it roll off the dolly, I popped the clutch and it started. I have not been able to get it to do that again. The fuel injector fuse in in tact and not blowing. Any suggestions? Thanks.

pull main relay. pop the cap off of it. resolder main joints. google honda civic main relay solder fix. super common issue and easy fix. that eliminates that part as a problem.
your injectors could be gummed up. pull them soak them in seafoam overnight.
fuel filters are like $5 from ebay.
BUT pull the injectors, put them back in your fuel rail. put a pop bottle on the end of each and crank the car...do you get fuel? if so you have a spark problem

whens the last time you put a new rotor and dizzy cap on? 25yr old spark plugs?

find wether you have fuel and spark. but sounds like you have a bad starter also
