I have a 1995 Honda Civic DX and the Head Gasket is leaking and needs to be replaced.Is this a big job? and what would I be looking at as a estimated cost for a job like this?

in my experiance any head gasket is a big job.
are you 100% shure it is the head gasket and not the rocker seal as the rocker seal is common for leaking.

Depends on your level of mechanical experience. A headgasket isn't any more of a job than dropping a tranny IMHO. Remove/replace/reinstall.

If your planning on doing this as a first time headgasket replacement, get a Helms manual. http://Helminc.com sells them for 62 dollars and it WILL be the best money you'll ever spend on your car.

its really not that hard, only thing you might ave trouble with is getting the intake mani off cause the bolts under are kinda hard to reach, also the boldts under the valve cover are torqued down real good, youll need a nice big ratchet or breaker bar, buts its pretty simple, just take off the IM and EM and the timing belt and get under the balve cover, just nuts and bolts

i didnt disconnect hardley anything, i just disconnected enought stuff so that i could have a friend lift the head about 5 inches or so in the air (with almost everything attached) slid the old gasket out and the new one in.

thats a dumb idea ..99% of the time if you have a blown head gasket..the high temperature caused some sort of warping to the head...you should ALWAYS get the head resurfaced when doing a head gasket job...not to mention any residued oil build up could make the gasket not sit on right and would defeat the purpose of changing it cuz the possibilty of it leaking again would be very likely...ohh and if you let loose "enough" stuff to lift the head 5 inches...you let loose everything you need to take the head off...but to answer the other guys question..get a manual and look at what it takes to do the job..if you think you can do it..do it..its not that hard if you are mechanically inclined
