1994 CX or 1996 DX - which should I buy?
First off hellllooo!!
New to the forums!
Having a small debate within my head what model and year civic hatchback i want to buy. Both as far as i know are completely stock and basically the same price. The dilemma that i am having is which would more easily accept a swap [i know this is a vague questions as a intended motor i would swap into the car would help]. But as basic as my question is i expect the answer to be the same, anything change between these two years and models? anything i should be worried about?
two models and years:
1994 Honda Civic CX Hatchback
1996 Honda Civic DX Hatchback
Finally which would you prefer!

welcome to the forums
although it is ultimately up to your choice as to which car looks better to you
there are a few differences between the years other than looks
the CX is OBD 1 and the 96 is OBD 2, OBD1s are preferred when you prepare to swap and tune
the CX is more likely to have seized up bolts that can be a pain to work on
the DX may have less worn suspension bushings

Re: 1994 CX or 1996 DX
Thanks for the fast response! Good to see that this forum is very active! I'm a severe novice and unless i get a good deal on an engine the swap won't be anytime soon but I'd rather be prepared.
So from what i understand the CX with the OBD 1 is easier to swap and tune? Is that fair to say? But could run into frozen parts i.e. bolts ect?
Things i would do before a swap is things like lowering the car, handling upgrades ect.
Again i am probably the biggest n00b on here but bare with me lol, i currently own a 98 Honda accord EX but want something lighter and smaller. Thinking of trading that Honda for the ones i posted or maybe just buying another car.

Re: 1994 CX or 1996 DX
I am also new to the forum, but Personally I like the looks of the "bubble hatch", but I have a 99 dx (same body Style as 96). It really depends which car is all around cleaner, more maintained, and lastly which one you will be happy getting into every day.

Still debating if i want to trade my 98 accord leather inside power everything think its an EX.
Dealers site uses like flash to view cars so cannot grab direct link but if you want to tell me if its a good deal or bad deal and got 2 mins to kill here is the link
http://windhamautosales.com/
Go to vehicle list, then sort by price... then sort by ascending. its like the fourth car down 94 cx civic obv.

Thanks for the fast replies guys i cannot show my appreciation enough for those who took the time to go check that cx out for me. I knew it was a little pricey as i have seen some cheaper on craigslist as mentioned above. I have my phone app that picks up new hatches that pop on craigslist in my area not a lot up their =/ [NH]
What would you all say was a fair price i saw some people said around 1500-2500.
Thanks again!
Mike!

This is going to be a hit or miss. But i think the cargo cover you are referring to was replaced with some carbon fiber not sure if its fake or real but was replaced.

yup its definitely been painted he even told me they touch up the paint aka repaint blemishes ect... its decent on the outside and in small blemishes, some cons that i thought when it test drove it today..
Cons:
Back honda emblem is broken (I'm ocd)
Back right bumper seems to be ajar (right behind wheel were it mounts to frame bends out)
Power steering? (Says it has it but incredibly week compared to my 98 accord ex lol but hey can't complain to much)
Steering feels loose (does that make sense like when driving i feel like it has a little play were it doesn't move the wheels)
The cluster on the car has no tach for rpms [this is an easy switch as i have been doing some research]
I drove it for a short period of time but seems decent he had told me he has not run it through the shop. He said he takes all the cars on the lot replaces anything broken or that has flaws...
I bought my old 98 accord ex from same dealer his cars do come with warranty's. the accord i have now was a car my sister purchased, the head or something crack because of oil leaking and he replaced the whole motor. So customer service is great their...

Re: 1994 CX or 1996 DX - which should I buy?
slammed4dreg, thank you so much for the fast replies i appreciate it! What i am looking for is a car that is in decent shape something that will last me a year with out breaking down lol. I do know that i want a hatchback, around the years of 92-95 as the back does not have that "Bubble" appearance. I also plan to customize this car to my liking the fake or real carbon fiber cargo cover is alright no complaints in my book. I am thinking i want to talk this guy down either to 3000 or lower. LOWER i hope but beeing a dealership i mean... i geuss we'll see.

Re: 1994 CX or 1996 DX - which should I buy?
I would be taking out a loan so the dealer would be getting all the cash upfront. So their would be no loans through the dealership so i feel i might have some room their. I have a 98 accord ex as i stated before its in fair-good condition which states i could private sale for about 2700 for fair and 3400 for good condition. Trade in value around 1500 as well. The things that make it fair would be the clear coat or oxidized paint i think i heard some one call it and front and back bumper are not attached correctly =P.
So the debate arises keep the 98 accord and try to talk him down to 2500, and keep both cars. Trade in or sell the accord for the hatch.
