if his vss was in-op his spedo, trip and vtec would not work. It's not related to the tach.

There's a green wire that is for the tach that should go to one of the cluster pig tails.(wish i had a pic to show you) but search how to install a shift light as it requires splicing into said wire. in short look to see if said wire is there and is giving a signal.

I have a similar problem with my b18a1 swapped eg. when i bought the car it had a p28 with a vtec map and it ran like **** but the rpms were good. as soon as i got a p75 in there the rpms were off. i read an old post somewhere and some guy had the same prob and he fixed it by swapping in a gsr cluster

Oh ok. I bought the car with the swap in it already . Let me know what you guts think is a B16a2 obd1 with p28. Is that good or bad?.

b16a2 can be obd1 or obd2(or with a obd2 to obd1 jumper harness) AFAIK. p28 is fine

This has happened quite a few times....
Unplug the distributor connector, and then measure how much resitance at the blue wire terminal. If the resistance reading is low (100 Ohms or less), then there's a short.
I bet the blue wire is broken or disconnected somewhere between the distributor and cluster.

near your driver side strut tower / clutch master area there is a single blue wire with a plug at the end of it.. if you connect that wire with the darkest blue wire on your dizzy, this should solve the problem
