Default 1992 Civic - Rusted Rotors & Calipers

I recently bought a 92' Honda Civic EX. It is not great but it's my project car. And when I got it towed the front wheels weren't moving. It just dragged. When I brought it home, I took off the wheels and realized that the rotors, calipers and break pads were all rusted. How can I get the calipers loose to I can take out the rotors?

I will post pictures when I can.

I tired that. It still wont budge. Is there a solvent of some sort that could loosen it. I sprayed WD-40 around it. Maybe I'm not using a big enough hammer or not enough power? Got any other ideas if this doesn't work?

I would probably remove the lower caliper bolt and use a long flat head or short pry bar and pry under the bottom end of the caliper along the bracket the pads sit in, thats what I usually do. Might take a little elbow grease but should eventually come off.

Thanks. I'll try the PB Blaster, Hammer and the prying with a flathead. I'll update as soon as I can.

Take the hole assembly off and replace it. Good working brakes are essential.

To get the caliper/pads off the rotor, **** do what you gotta do, hammer, torch, sawzall whatever. I'd say the bigger hammer the better lol. Rust, corrosion and seized bolts are a bitch .

RE: PB BLASTER

How does it really work? Does it remove the rust? If so, how long should I leave it soaking?

PS. Sorry about the noob questions.

I had this problem on a car. Compress the caliper like you're going to take it off to do brakes. Use a hammer and punch, chistle, etc to knock the pad off the rotor. Spray PB Blaster on the bolts and let it sit before doing a brake job.

PB Blaster has some sort of "penetrating catalyst", or that's what the bottle says. I don't know how it works, but whatever makes it smell bad must help.

Let it sit for an hour, or heck, overnight is better.
