17" 7.5 wheels on my 2000 civic si. Loud sound coming form back wheels.
Sometimes when I hit a bump in the road I here the loud (clunk) sound comming from the back wheels. It doesn't sound like the tires are rubbing, it's loud and it sounds like metal on metal. Is it the 17" 7.5 wheels or is the car is low, I have Tein super street coilovers, so I can adjust if need be, I have already adjusted the back to see if the sound would go away, but it didnt. Tire size is 205/40 R17. Any suggestions? Thanks

How many inches is it dropped? Are the rims/tires tucked? Have you jacked up the car and checked the trailing arms/ coil overs/ etc? Maybe a bushing has gone bad or something is loose? Those are a few place i would check. I know it sounds stupid, but nothing is moving around in the trunk right? Jack or anything? Everytime i hit a bump i hear all sorts of sounds from my trunk.

also have you corrected tow and camber? If not perhaps the wheel hop could be hitting a control arm or something.

I had this exact problem with my SI rear end, I mean EXACT!
Mine turned out to be a loose nut holding my rear sway bar's end link to the LCA.
This might be a good place to start looking. I ended up just removing my entire sway bar and the noise is completely gone.
I found mine by putting the car on jack stands, taking off the wheels and lifting the hub up and down. I was able to hear the noise and narrow it down to that one nut.

Is it just me or does that not make any sense?
Try doing what monkeypuzzle suggested... see if you can replicate the noise when the car is jacked up and still.
Hopefully you're not too low and bottoming out your dampeners.

I appreciate every ones input, I will definitely jack it up and put it on stands to see if I can see where the sound is coming from. Thanks again.

I found out that the sound was the wheel well, I didnt want to do it but I had to shave the lip off of the inside of the back well. It hurt but I had to do it to make the wheel fit. Thanks again.
