Default 1.6 vtec headers?

my cousin just got a 98 dx hatch and puttin a vtec head on it. he needs headers but was told that in order to get headers you cant have a cat unless you do a custum setup. who makes headers for this motor and are they compatible with the stock cat location? thanks for the input!

there about 10 million companies that make headers for about every honda ever rolled off an assembly line. most are compatable with all stock components. also, call it a header(singular) unless you wanna get *** raped around here, i personally don't care, because as long as you have more than one cylinder, therefore header primary, you can call them headerS. but ppl around here are cry babies, just fair warning....

then he'd need a header that would pass emissions too correct?

Whoever is telling you this is feeding you a straight line of B.S. I just sold a DC Sports header that i used to have on my D16y8 that bolted straight up to my cat.

This is because in your EX the cat is downstream of the header. In the DX engine, (D16Y7), the header is part of the factory header.

Just pick up an EX or SI cat, buy whatever header that will fit 92-00 SOHC D-series you want, and have the cat welded in right after the header.

You will also need to extend the secondary O2 sensor wiring to reach the O2 bung in the catalytic converter.

might wanna check your local emissions in most states its illegal to move to location of your cat and if he gets his *** sniffed run the header put the stock manifold back on go get sniffed pass and resume you of the header simpler and legel for the most part!

edit, i have a hi flow cat from my civic for sale for 50 bux in my for sale thread in my sig

Im pretty sure the cat on the motor is driectly in front of the motor, not under and behind. So no, there is not a header that I have seen that will fit it.

The cat is directly in front of the motor, it's part of the OEM header/exhaust manifold. A header made for an D16Y8 will fit it, you will just have to relocate the cat. I didn't have problems passing smog in Missouri after I relocated my cat due to this situation, but then again Missouri isn't as tough as Cali I'm sure.
