1.5 liter in my '95 Honda Civic CX hatchback is WHITE SMOKING BIG TIME!
I just bought a '95 Honda Civic CX hatchback about two months ago. I am using it to keep the miles off my primary car, '00 Honda S2000, and also using this Civic as a future platform for a project drag car. I intend to replace the motor with a B18C1 in about 6 months, but until then, I'd like to keep the car running. Here's my problem:
I noticed the oil light came on a few times last week. I had the oil changed when I bought the car two months earlier. There was only about 500 miles on the oil change. When I got home, I checked my oil level. It looked as though there was NO OIL in the car at all. So, I gave it two quarts of oil and two more quarts of a substance called CD2. CD2 is basically that crap you put in your engine if its smoking alot and leaking some oil. Sometimes it fixes leaks in gaskets .. sometimes.
Anyhow, I drove it last night and it sounded like it was knocking under hard acceleration. I didn't want to blow the engine, so I immediately turned around and parked it. This afternoon I cranked the engine again to check for oil. Once again, no oil was on the dipstick to speak of Then I turned around and noticed this HUGE CLOUD OF WHITE SMOKE engulfing the ENTIRE parking lot of my apartment complex.
I turned off the engine as quickly as I could. I unscrewed the oil cap and it looks like the top of the engine is still very well lubed, very thick to be exact. Thick with the CD2 stuff I put in the motor. This CD2 stuff looks like Karo Syrup (that vegetable oil type of color, except REAL THICK .. almost like molasses). What the hell have I done? What can be done to fix it? I need help but I don't even know where to start.
This sucks. Even though I have my nice, new S2000 to drive, sometimes I like to drive my hatchback. It's fun too...

Sounds like you've got blown rings, and/or a blown head gasket.
Open the radiator cap, and check for oil. Also, drain the oil from the pan and check to see if the oil has any water in it when you drain it out.

Could be head gasket. Have you been beating on it at all? It doesn't sound good, that's for sure.
If it's more I'd say it's time for that swap... Wait a minute, it's a cx? IT'S TIME FOR THAT SWAP even if it is just a HG!!!!!!

yeah .. now the question is do i bother to fix the motor when a B18C1 motor swap is only 6 months away?
AND YES, ITS A CX that was the only one i would buy because i wanted the absolute lightest 5th gen hatchback i could find

I'm gonna have to go with the rings on this one...
Is there AMY loss of power and is it burning up oil?

If it is a car w/ high mileage, you would have to replace rings along with the headgasket.. I am saying that if you just took a chance and replaced the headgasket only, compression ratio would increase, and if the rings were old and worn you would still be smokin'...

I pulled a Carfax and everything looked fine. It doesn't matter much since I'm putting in a GSR motor in six months anyhow. I just figured that if I could keep this motor running another six months for REAL cheap, that I should do it so I have a regular car to keep the miles off my good car (the S2000).

Keep it running for cheap--go to a junkyard and get another CX engine or a DX for under $500, probably more like $300 or so. If you find someone who has done a swap, they'd probably sell you their oem engine for next to nothing.
The DX engine actually runs pretty good--a lot better than the 8-valve CX engine, that's for sure.
