Default 02 civic ex swap

What engine swap are available for my 02 civic. Its SOHC and i want a DOHC and was thinking about a B18c5 but would it fit in a 7th generation car? I need some suggestions about what engine i can drop in that will fit and put out alot more power and torque than my car has.

No, forget the B-series stuff with the 7th gen Civics, you have the luxury of choosing K20! The RSX Type-S is best, you can use the 160hp version from the Si or standard RSX but kind of a waste to do all the same work but get 40 less hp...

however b series swaps are possible, and may be cheaper.

and why is it a luxury?

Along with this subject, which motors would bolt directly in?? Those are always the easiest to swap.

only motor that will fit is a k-series motor. Go with k20a (type R i think) Hasports makes motor mounts that will fit 02 civic. Check out 7thgencivic.com for more information. Your looking about $6000-$8000 bucks to do a complete swap. On that site there is about 10-20 peeps that have done so. I know of one guy in so-cal that dropped a k20a motor and it hauls.

As mentioned before, forget the b series all together. You have the option of a k series. Wether it be a k20a2 or k24. If it were that easy for me, I would pick up that swap so fast. K series > built b series anyday (for me at least). Plus k20's respond to bolt ons much better, and you can't forget the fact that when someone sees you have a K series they drool all over it.

The best web site on the K series: http://www.k20a.org A member here created it and has endless knowledge about these engines. If you have any questions his name is nikos.

K-Series are pimp.

Just keep in mind that this will not be cheap. Don't rush into this thinking you can nickel and dime it, cause it won't work out for you in the end if you do.

Since you have an 02 Civic, you cannot legally swap any B series.

Federal law, the engine swapped in must be the same year or newer than the chassis it is being swapped into.

So if you're in an emissions/inspection area or a cop pops your hood and knows what he is looking at, you're busted.

Not entirely true. If all of the emission components were up todate, and it passed a B.A.R. it would be legal. Even in Cali, fat chance someone will attempt that though.

Not entirely true. (and it must be a cop that knows his hondas :-p)

It is illegal to swap a motor type that was not available during the year of the chasis.

i.e. since there are no cars sold with B16s in 2004, it would be illegal to put a B16 into a 2004, just as it would be illegal to put a K20 into an ek.
but yea, some laws are stupid.

but it would be legal to put a B18 into an 01 civic ;-) since there was a teg for that yer.
