Does it just seem to crank longer when cold? Mine (and every other civic I know, including 7th gens) always seems to crank a long time when cold or low on gas.

Check the spark plugs. Just unscrew the 10mm nut on the coils, unplug, and lift, the spark plug is under there. Helps if you take off the black cover over all the wiring on the valve cover, easier to get to the plugs.

My 01 sometimes takes a little longer to start when it's cold, but only 1-2 seconds more. Sounds like something may be going wrong.

mine did that too, it took a while to start up when cold, i changed the fuel filter and it fixed the problem, iono if that's your case, couldn't hurt to try though.
