Has anyone ever sucked in water into their engine. I was driving to work in pouring rain on a back road and all of a sudden the car starts misfiring. It came of and on and got progressively worse. Check engine light came on. A couple times the car blogged completely out and I had to press the clutch and coast and crank it a couple times. any who I made it work. I let it sit all day. I reset the light and drove home. On the way I took the highway and the check light came on again. It drove fine tho, no misfires. I got home and reset the light again. drove to the bank (2-3 mi) bam its on again. This time I came home and reset the light and let my car idle for like 30 mins. No light so i took it for a drive around town, seemed fine, however I didnt hit VTEC what so ever despite being dry outside. Should I be worried it will come back. It had never done this before and I have driven plenty of times in the rain. Is there any cure for this. No bypass valve? Im thinking of fabricating a box because I have no fender-wells. scary tho

I'd be worried, it sounds like you hydrolocked a cylinder or two.

Why did you clear the codes? There's a reason the light is coming on, and you need to have the codes pulled so you know whats going on with the motor.

I pulled the code. O2 sensor low voltage. I think the water messed it up. Oh well the engine is fine. Vtec is fine. no other codes. time to replace the sensor.

I think Im gonna get a J's racing intake now. the V2 has got on my last nerve. I cant risk another incident like this.

i wouldnt be to cocky just yet. same thing happened to me. but the next day after i changed my oil. the rod decided to break while i was driving home from work. not even driving hard. you could be ok or you could have created a timebomb. good luck.

why aren't you running any fenders in your car?? that will certainly soak your filter with water! It won't hydrolock your engine but it will make it run like crap. If you want to sell your V2, let me know, I'd possibly be interested.

Obviously the rain affected the electrical system in that O2 sensor so your problem had nothing to do with the V2.

If he hydrolocked a cylinder or 2 he'd know believe me....his motor would have stopped dead at that moment....literally dead.

It's a V2, you can't cut them like a regular CAI. They have 2 different "chambers" or thinkness of pipes.

Any suggestions on what to do?? I guess I'll change the oil and go run a compression check. Anything else??? I cant afford to break a rod. This is my Daily driver. Oh does anyone know where to get a cheaper O2 sensor???

Put some fender liners in . . . Why would you take them out? For that supa-dumped ricetastic stance? With the fender liners back in, you'll likely solve your problems . . . if you're still soaking the filter, build a shroud around the filter element.

I have had about 3 friends who hydrolocked their cars because of CAI's and rain and puddles and crap. There not worth it at all if you live in an area with rain.

They may add HP but i dont think its worth the risk. I also heard that the bypass valve AEM makes doesnt do anything...? Hmmm i would think it would but if your main filter is all soaking wet i doubt it will help it THATMUCH (i could be wrong)

I rather have an Eghey 15 dollar chromed out short ram than a V@ anyday

If your friends are hydrolocking their engines they must be driving in lakes because I live in an area where it rains A LOT and I've had a cold air on my car for 4 years and never had a problem. You also heard wrong about the bypass valve not doing anything, testing has shown that it does exactly what it's supposed to do. Dollar for dollar a cold air intake will give your Honda more of a power gain than any other bolt on part with the exception of Nitrous. All it requires is that the driver uses a little common sense when driving near standing water in a lowered car.
