00 civic ex unable to time properly.
Alright guys I've stumped my mind trying to figure this issue out so here I am seeing if anyone has any ideas. I've searched around and have a few ideas now that I could try but id like to hear some knot specific to this problem...
00 civic ex with y8 automatic...
Car was turbo charged before and had a cel for the automatic sensor. That has since gone away no more cels... went to time it the same day and couldn't then I noticed that the timing belt was off a tooth. Last night I fixed the timing belt being off a tooth and put the skunk2 adjustable cam gear back to 0* on the cam gear double and triple checked it. It was good.
Put everything back together and went to time it with the dizzy set to full advance and still could not set it. Now yes the single white mark was lined up with the timing cover that's not an issue. However the timing isn't off a few degrees its not even at zero when looking at it with my gun... I had already adjusted the idle prior and its very close but off a tad and it aswell is already maxed out. Just for informational purposes the car has been returned to stock and edelbrock turbo setup removed along with its piggy back system.
I think that's pretty much it so if anyone has any insight it would be greatly appreciated!!

Obviously it still has the cam gear. Thank you for mentioning the obvious. According to skunk2 the cam gear works for all d15/d16 motors so if you can provide some more useful information that'd be great...

No. I'm saying you still have on an aftermarket cam gear that might be the cause of you NOT being able to time it correctly since there's no reason to have one installed for a stock engine. You said you put it back to stock but it isn't until the get rid of the cam gear. Since there is no reason you would not be able to set time properly with a stock engine I am assuming it has something to do with the cam gear. I don't care WHAT Skunk says.
Now if you have anything else on the engine that isn't stock?
Don't be so quick to dismiss.

Tensioned is set according to helms however I did not check the wear however the belt doesn't seem very worn all the printing of honda and gates is CLEARLY visible and the belt teeth are in good condition.
I did jump the connector and forgor to mention when I did jump it to set the timing after the turbo and pithy back were removed the cel came on and stayed lit without blinking... sorry kind of a large detail I forgot to mention.

When the white mark on the crank pulley is aligned perfectly with the pointer on the lower timing belt cover, post a picture verifying the cam positioned at TDC1. What cam alignment marks are you using?
When you checked the ignition timing, where was the red mark on the crank pulley located relative to the pointer?

Re: 00 civic ex unable to time properly.
Im using the alignment marks on the skunk2 cam gear which up points up and the 90* marks on both side are lined up with the top of the head surface.
With the dizzy fully advanced the motor will almost time to 0* not even to that so just goes to show its very far off. I've never had a problem timing a car before im really leaning toward the cam gear causing the issue idk.

Pardon for my ignorance I thought the whole point of adjustable cam gears was the ability to give you a greater range of timing. Have you tried adjusting the gear to any other point than zero?

I'm not looking to adjust the cam gear while the car is in stock "form" it was used with the turbo kit to adjust the timing and I'm trying to figure out this amongst a few other issues this car is having.
