Re: ~~EG2 Del Sol Si-R Build/"Restoration" Project. LOTS OF PICS~~~
Got a lot of work done today on the Si-R. I can officially call it a rolling chassis now that the radiator support and rear subframe are welded on. I can't thank Terry enough for helping out.
I also started sanding the engine bay.. It's gonna take a while.
Not finished cleaning it all up, but it's at least welded on and sealed to not rust..
No, I'm not shaving the bay. I just needed to fix the pillars where the previous owner had slammed the sol.

What kinda welder are you using? Looks like I got a project that requires welding body parts and want to be prepared.

Based off of the size of the lead, some sort of 140amp 110v welder.
Do you have one yet?

I apologize for the delay in updates. Work has kept me busy. BUT.. I got to installing everything over the weekend for test fitting.. and.. The Sol has power again!
Everything seems to be working correctly. Windows roll up and down, power mirrors, blower motor, windshield wipers, flashers, lights, etc. This was definitely a big moment. Now to take everything out, get new O-rings, clean up the brackets, and re-loom the entire harness.
Major win this weekend!

Another BIG step forward. All lines are finished and lines are bled! I’m surprised to inform you there are no leaks, haha.
With the upgraded 1” master cylinder from a GSR, the brake pedal is so stiff. Of course it’s stock rear discs, larger oem Front discs, and 4040 proportioning valve. I’m excited for the braking of this car.
P.S. - please notice the conversion in the bottom right of the picture. Whatever previous owner did the “brake line tuck”, converted all the lines to SAE. I cannot explain the headache I went through to get everything back to metric (unfortunately that includes using anodized purple couplings)

Next step is fuel. I need to extend the line on the firewall, flare some fittings, and find all the hoses for the tank... hopefully this won’t be a difficult step.

Well, I apologize for not updating as often as I’d like, but we have made incredible progress this month.
Even though the end goal is to put a B16A back into the Sol, I decided that I would get a “temporary” motor to help me work out all the kinks of the car (brakes, suspension, fuel, etc etc). I found a d16z6 that was “drop in ready” and went to pick it up.
After the motor sat in my week for about a week, I decided to tear it apart and reseal it.
Also, I finished all the pitly crap that needed put back together on the sol.
Fuel tank installed with new hoses.
Brake lines finished.
Clutch line finished.
Fuel line finished.
Chassis harness finished.
All lines bled.
I got the motor installed yesterday and ALL fluids have been added (including windshield washer fluid).
Before I can crank it, I’m trying to track down a RHD engine harness.. of course I forgot that I needed this before installing the motor.
Hopefully it will be cranked in the next two weeks. Then I can start rebuilding all suspension parts.

THE SOL IS RUNNING AGAIN!
So, I apologize for only posting once a month at this point. Personal and work life has kept me incredibly busy, but some HUGE updates! I have a video of the first crank I will edit down and post, but here are some pictures of current progression.
First trip out of the driveway. I made it 1/4 mile to get the (new) gas tank filled up.
Now that it is running, I had to get some decent suspension. This is the temporary setup to work out all the kinks.
First REAL drive was to the dealership for an alignment. It was 42 degrees out, but I didn't care. The top came off.
The alignment wasn't as bad as I thought (remember I had a new rear subframe welded on). Most of the toe was out by 1 degree, but one was out over 2 degrees. Everything is back in spec now, toe and camber.
My first "road trip". I took it on a two hour drive and stopped at the same gas station I did on the way home from towing it. These two pictures are seven months apart.
Now that it is running, time to start body work.

I didn't post it, but the Del Sol is in the body shop. It has been there for a little over a month and has about another month left there. It is getting stripped down to metal, framework, bodywork, etc. When it comes out (crosses fingers) it should be perfect.

In the meantime, I did find a set of wheels that needed some love and attention.. And i couldn't resist

On your process of rebuilding this car, where did you source new seals for it? Door seals, trunk seals, window seals? I’m having a hard time finding these.

For door seals, I was lucky and ran into a guy that had a few junker Sols. I bought them from him for $20.
My trunk seal was good.
I was really torn between polishing and powder coating. I tried sanding the imperfections out, but unfortunately they were deeper than the clear coat (and there was a lot of imperfections). I decided with how busy I already am, paying somebody to powder coat would be more feasible than polishing them myself.
Also, the Mugen NR's I had on them 10 years ago were white.. so why not, right?

Since I have been gone for the past three months, here are a few photos from my camera roll of updates I missed.
Front Lip
All new, used seals.
Replaced the old, blue striped seats.
These fender liners actually took me longer to find than anything else..
