Great writeup!!!!!!!
My weakness is not being able to put my knowledge about into words.
His 3 major issues, I made the same errors on 3 different trannys.
Learning the hard way.

One day I'll post some pics of what happened when my input shaft bearing slung itself to pieces. If your tranny makes a noise that goes away when you push the clutch in, replace the bearing!
The only thing worth salvaging off that tranny was the end of the input shaft...it makes quite a nice clutch alignment tool!

Nice job. My brother's car has the same symptoms of a spun input shaft bearing. Unfortunately, I don't have time to work on it and he doesn't know much about mechanics.

Thanks guys. I've found the problem. The 5th gear synchro was stuck. Took the damn thing apart for the 4th time and now it spins in all the gears. Now I can put this tranny back together with my eyes close and It's the only one I will do. Damn shame. But thanks for the info. Now maybe I can get back to my quest for 12s.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by BauleyCivic »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Transmission installation is the reverse of taking it apart. To put the transmission back on the car, I suggest that you have a jack under both the tranny and the engine so you can align the two for easier installation. Also, make sure you coat the mainshaft spline and the clutch fork (thing that slave cylinder goes into) with anti-seize lubricant. If anyone has any questions, please reply, and if necessary I can post reassembly instructions.
Good Luck

Back from the dead, just wanted to make a note of something.
In bold he suggests Anti-Seize lubricant for the mainshaft splines and clutch, i'd also assume for the release bearing.
From everything I know this is BAD, that stuff will start to dry up and it is NOT a lubricant. Use a HIGH TEMP UREA grease. Its not cheap, 12bucks for a little container of it, but its designed for that hightemp/friction area.

I think thats what wrong with mine.
Mine in 1st makes a really bad wirring noice, and sometimes in second. Push in the clutch and it goes away.
Its been making this horrible noise for about a month now.
What happens when that bearing breaks or goes out?

Better replace it soon, my friend rode around with that noise and his tranny is worthless now.
