Icon2 *GSR Swap//Wrong Oil Pan???*

Alright so I bought a GSR swap from a guy and swapped it into my 98 Civic LX. I got the whole swap finnished, running into a few barriers but got those fixed, and started it up. It started up and ran fine considering i only ran it for 10 seconds max because oil started shooting out from the back side of the engine . So i started looking and it looked to me that it was a bad rear main seal that blew out terribly. So i got the rear main along with a new clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing, throughout bearing, head gasket, timing belt, intake manifold gasket, and oilpan gasket knowing that the engine would be out for a wile cause i dont have much time to work on it going to school full time and working 40 hours a week. I just finneshed changing everything. After i finished the rear main seal, the last thing that i did, when i was putting the half shaft in i seen this spot where the oil pan meets the engine block. It makes sense that i didnt see it before i took the tranny off because it is behind the halfshaft and i couldnt see it with it on. So im thinking that it is the wrong oil pan because of this area. Its confusing tho but it makes sense. The oilpan is stamped P72 and the engine is a B18C1 out of a 98 GSR. Enough talking heres some pics...

here is the gap that i was talking about:
Ohh yah and dnt worry about the oil thats from when it sprayed everything out.

and this is where its located on the back side of the oilpan behind the halfshaft if it was in there:

So i guess tell me if thats what you think.

If the pan is stamped P72, then it's the right pan. You'll find the P72 code on a lot of the parts for a GSR. The ECU for a GSR is a P72, for example. And the block and head should both have a P72 stamp somewhere. So it's the right pan for the block you have. I'd replace the oil pan gasket as that has a tendency to wear out and leak.

gsr oil pan isnt really different from other b series pans as far as fitting the block goes. its the depth of the pan thats different cause of extra space needed for the main girdle, if you had sayy an LS pan it wouldnt even fit on all the way

yahh thats kind of what i figured. but idk what else it could be... what is the little black box that they have on the back of the block closest to the tranny? it has two hoses coming from it. one to the water pipe and the otherone is not conected. im just trying to find out where the oil is sraying from so i dont put another $50 in fluids in it for nothing. any ideas. clearly its not the oilpan...

The black box is part of the crank ventilation system, the oil cooler is going to have to hoses coming off if it...to and from the radiator...did you replace the oil pan gasket? If you did, did you coat it with hondabond?

not yet i havent replaced it. do i have to coat it in hondabond or can it be another type of sealant? and the other hose...is that going to matter if i dont have it hooked up. and by other hose i meen the one on the black box that is not connected to the waterpipe.

It's less than 9 lb-ft, in other words hand-tighten, but don't get crazy.

red hose. but i think i may have figured out what was wrong now correct me if im wrong. i talked to the guy i bought my engine from a few days ago and he told me that he wasnt running a pcv valve only because it made his car smoke. he had a hose coming off of where the pcv valve is supposed to be (red in the picture above). so today i pulled off the whole black box off the back of the engine and changed the o-ring thinking maybe thats what it could be coming from. Prior to knowing all of this, when the engine was still sitting in my house i saw the hose and thought just cap it off. so i did. My question is if i just capped off the hose (red in the pic above) so the engine couldnt breath (correct me if im wrong) would it build up enough pressure to push the oil out of the oil pan or any other seals? i put a new pcv valve and ran it how it said on alldata.

that could be your prob yes. thats why its called positive crankcase ventilation. the black box is almost def where your oil leak is from. sounds right to me. ok so the red hose was capped off you said? and now youve hooked it up properly to a pcv valve? then the other end from that valve to a vaccum port on the intake correct?
