This guy locally is selling a d16y8 swap with axles, tranny, shift linkage, and longblock all together still. Says it has 80k miles on it and everything was great.... EXCEPT the block has a hole in it from where a rod was thrown thru it. So what do you think??

negative. you'll have to buy a whole new block... and why did it throw a rod if it only had 80k miles... ?

think about it.

I considered the possibilty that he was driving it hard for a rod to be thrown thru the block. But I figured the axles and tranny and head are worth the 300 bucks.

buy my 100k miles D16Z6 complete swap for 450. I'll throw in an AEM SRI and DC 4-2-1 headers. It drives beautifully and the tranny is mint!

It probably either spun a rod bearing (incredibly common on Y8s) or it hydrolocked and broke a rod. Head may not be any good either btw, sometimes when the rod breaks the piston will come back up and drive itself into the head.

I know I could go get a bottom end for around $100 give or take 50. So thats not a problem, just the Y8 I've got now is a complete mess(How I got it) and need a new one before something major goes wrong. I asked the guy to send me some more pics of the damage since in the first batch he didnt.

leave it. $400 buys a running motor. nothing in the bottom ( most times top) is salvageable.
