Default Are 2019 Civic CVT transmissions chain or belt driven?

Hi

I'm looking to purchase a new car and just test drove a 2019 Civic Ex-L and loved the way it drove.

I asked the salesmen if the CVT tranny was chain or belt driven and he replied chain. Is this correct?

Also any other input on pros and cons of this model are appreciated.

Thanks

.Hey there!

The 2019 EXL model CVT is chain driven. There hasn't been any major on going issues with this generation of civic.
As you can see the digram below shows #7 chain.

Have fun with your new civic!

Part #7 in the diagram for the CVT that rcrooz provided does look like a chain; however, it is a STEEL BELT that is grooved with teath.
You can forward to 1:07 to see and hear the explanation.

Kind of an absurd question ! All these CVTs are obviously BELT driven. The effective diameters of the pulleys are varied continuously.

For a chain drive, the sprocket diameters and number of teeth would somehow have to be varied and that's just not possible.

Not an obvious or absurd question for someone who does not know and is seeking an answer.

I was told so far on this thread it's chain driven, steel belt driven and now belt driven. Seems it's not so obvious.

I ended up buying the car anyway. What it is it is.

it is metal, whether one calls it a belt or a chain is irrelevant, it is made of metal, and not rubber.

It is a multi-layered metal belt. My perhaps crass comment, for which I apologize, is only because there isn't any way a chain could be used as the critical element of a CVT.
