10th Gen Civic Si / Type R rumor mill
Lets stir up the rumor mill about the upcoming Civic Si and Type R.
With the limited amount of information that has been confirmed for the Si and R, most of what's discussed at this point is complete speculation. The Geneva Motor Show is coming up next week, and more concrete info should be released then.
Things I am aware of:
Type R:
Confirmed to be coming to the US in a couple of variations
Confirmed to have the 2.0 turbo that the current R has, possibly with more power
Should be released spring/summer 2017, likely as a 2018 MY
Likely be a coupe and 4dr hatchback model; some outlets saying that the hatchback will wear the Acura badge
Likely 6-spd only
Si:
Should be available as a coupe, hatchback, and sedan
Should be available with detuned 2.0 R motor
6-spd will be available, possible sport-CVT or dual clutch offering
Will be available as a 2017 MY likely late summer, early fall time frame 2016
Should be a global market vehicle
Let the rumor mill begin to turn!

Type -R will be a 5dr hatch. They've stated that somewhere. The design of the type R is whats questionable.
edit: the SI will either be a 2dr coupe or a sedan. They've already been doing this.

Re: 10th Gen Civic Si / Type R rumor mill
If we go back to Oct 2015 here:
2018 Honda Civic Type R Spy Shots
There were already reports of spyshots for the 2018 (?) Civic Type R. If you were to look at the images there (or just below for a quick one):
You can see that the CTR's lines are nearly identical to the ones on the 2017 (?) hatch here:
https://honda-tech.com/honda-civic-2...shots-3271412/
It should also be noted that the 9th gen Civic Type R (2015+) that is not available in N.America reportedly uses the K20C1 engine, while the 2016 10th gen Civic base car uses the K20C1 engine. Is this just a matter of Honda bolting an iron snail to the engine and calling it a day? While I highly doubt that, at least it is interesting to see that the 2 engines should share a lot of commonalities.

Re: 10th Gen Civic Si / Type R rumor mill
Since there's been little progress in the rumor dept, I'll stake my predictions here as well.
Si
- Sedan and Coupe only
- Mid range K20C, 230-260 HP. Revised valvetrain for better balance of fuel efficiency vs. performance.
- Black grill with revised front opening for a slightly bigger FMIC; raised rear valance with inserts for exhaust.
- Taller/wider spoiler
- 18" alloys
- Bigger ARBs with stiffer springs/dampers
- 6 spd with LSD and traditional e-brake
- Custom Si seats/shift ****/guages/steering wheel
- Two trims; one similar to EX-T and one similar to Touring with LEDs/Navi
CTR
- Hatch only
- Mildly evolved K20C1 from 9th Gen CTR; similar output and configuration
- Revised front and rear aero over base/Si; hood scoop to assist in engine bay vacuum (heat)
- Complete "extreme" treatment of chassis, suspension and interior consistent with Honda's R branding.

Re: 10th Gen Civic Si / Type R rumor mill
Reading the article I have this to say
The usdm version of the type R needs to go through the same test. The jdm/ukdm chassis, suspension and engine combo has proven worthy. The usdm version was quickly put together not too long ago and they are expecting it to behave the same as this version of the type R? Whatever...

Looking forward to it, i.e., the new US CTR.
Will probably keep my 06 Si as a daily driver/winter beater, and for primary driver insurance purposes.
My Piper Motorsports caged and InlinePro turbo'd 98 ITR will serve as primary track beast.

Civic Si Spotted
Honda Civic Si spotted looking sporty but mature - Autoblog
Coles notes summary:
- (slightly?) revised front fascia
- something resembling an FMIC, which in turn suggests a 2.0T engine in the car
- central exit exhaust
- 6 speed manual
- front sports buckets with huge side bolsters
My only question is -- please don't tell me the Si trim level will only be available as a coupe?

We've had four door Si for a while, now.
Two-door only, you're going back to the EP3, aren't you? Not exactly the most memorable moment in Honda history! :-)
(Mind you, I thought the EP3 was fine, and owned one. They were just ridiculously overpriced when they first came out.)

The EP3 was a 3-DR hatchback. The previous "Coupe only" Si model would have been the EM1... '99-00 Civic Si 2-DR Coupe. The 8th Generation Civic was the first model that had TWO distinctly different body style Si models... all previous generations had only one. 1988-91 = 3-DR Hatch, 1992-95 = 3-DR Hatch, 1999-00 = 2-DR Coupe, 2002-05 = 3-DR Hatch.

We've had four door Civic Si since 2006, right? Over a decade, now.
So, considering that all components would fit in both the Coupe and Sedan variants, why would we not have an Si Sedan? Even if it doesn't sell a lot by itself, you're still selling more than you'd sell if you limited it to the Coupe, right?

Re: 10th Gen Civic Si / Type R rumor mill
Additionally, it seems there were only a limited number of these early Civic Type R versions built, and the upcoming US/North American CTR cars are still to be built in England (correct me if I'm wrong).
P.S. Recently had my mailing address corrected with Honda/Acura Client Relations.

Okay. Well, let me rephrase this. :-)

Re: 10th Gen Civic Si / Type R rumor mill
So we'll have both the 4-door hatch and the coupe as the Si. I would expect the Si to come as a sedan as well since it should add very little work on their end. And we all know N.Americans *love* their sedans.

I don't know what they're doing, and I know I won't buy one. I've just gone past that stage.
But I still wish they'd hurry up. :-) I can't wait.

Grandpa George. Glad to see you here
Automotive News is reporting the Si will get a 1.5t. I can't provide a link because I am blocked from the site due to too many views per day. I will post a link tomorrow.

Re: 10th Gen Civic Si / Type R rumor mill
Traum, all indicators suggest that the Civic Type R will be a 5-door hatch. This actually fits the platform model that you illustrated because the CTR, like the Focus RS and the Fiesta ST, being the pinnacle of their models, are hatchbacks. Junkyard racer, I hope you (and Automotive News) are wrong because that engine combination will not be nearly as desirable as the 2.0L powertrain.

Re: 10th Gen Civic Si / Type R rumor mill
Spoke to sales manager and salesman at my local Honda dealership yesterday, and he's of the opinion the "Type R" version of the Civic would be on sale here next fall, with the "Si" appearing here prior to that next spring.
