Well it seems like every high milage civic eats oil. Now it may be that people drive them like raped ape. I am just trying to see what seems to be the normal milage is before it needs a rebuild. I do oil changes every 3k with mobile and drive it like a casual car.

A lot of "high milage" twincamm vtec motors burn oil. For many of you the k20z3 is your first vtec Honda or just Honda and seemed surprised at the oil consumption. It's normal, vtec burns oil and by that I mean high rotations. So before ajpbejenfjendjnedjejdn comes in well all know vtec is electric timed valve lift lol. I have 9k on my si and just added 3/4 of a quart yesterday when only about 1k on an oil change with mobil 1, I've been busy with the revs. I've had a few b16a's and b18c's that would consume a considerable amount of oil. Now those were all HMO motors so the mileage is never really know.

How wasting it? If anything it's saving me money from doing a rebuild at 110k. My buddy had a b16 at 170k that didn't burn a drop. So it can't just be all the engine. It has to be some driver and maintenance related.

anyways, the 2006-2010 civic's (Si's in this particular case) were built with the oil life meter right? well, the TYPICAL mileage you'd get out of your oil before the meter says it's time to change is 5-6k yea? why would they put this in the car if it wasn't MEANT TO BE USED?
not only are you changing your oil at 3k miles (~2k premature), but the oil life meter was designed to be based off of dino oil and you're using mobil1 which is SYNTHETIC! it is a waste of money x3.
