Icon4 06 Blend Door Actuator Replacement

Hey guys first thread post so correct any wrongs I have done lol, and thanks in advance. Now to my problem, I own a 06 honda civic ex-coupe auto tans and I'm in the process of replacing my blend door actuator and am having some issues. I'm also having difficulty finding videos/threads that pertain to replacing it because most of the ones I have found the actuator is in or under the glove box, but mine is located under the driver side dash. After receiving the actuator I mounted it under the dash and plugged the harness into the actuator. Then before completely screwing in the actuator, I figured I would test it. Upon turning the car on the air immediately kicked on and would not turn off. I turned the car off and unplugged the actuator. Turned the car back on and I have control over my air again, but obviously still no control over the temp of the car. Thanks in advance and if I left out any info let me know.

press enter ever so often..
easier to read..

awkward, why change blend door actuator to begin with? motor failed on it or same issue?
the blend door only allows outside air in that is all. if the controls are doing other things then its a wiring issue.

Sweet I’ll remember that next time, but the blend door I though controlled whether is will blow ac or heat. If that is the incorrect name the actuator I’m referencing is under the driver side dash and controls a foot which controls whether I get heat or ac. I’ve also seen it called the HVAC actuator.

Yea I’m not sure how It originally went bad. I had the heat on all winter then the ac wouldn’t work and I took it to a shop originally for freaon flush an refill. He mentioned my issue is with the actuator not working. They wanted to charge 200$ so I just picked it up and was going to do it myself. He mentioned checking the points on the harness and they we’re out putting 5 volts. I haven’t replaced the relay yet because I assumed the gentleman was correct which was a rookie mistake on my part.

Also I know there is an issue pertaining to the actuator whether it be the power going to it or the actuator it self because I can manually move the foot and my heat and AC work fine, but the actuator doesn’t do anything when plugged up and changing the temp on the dash.

Driver side is the air mix control motor.

changing temp? are you letting the car warm up? or AC? is your ac compressor working?

The HVAC system has a self-diagnostic feature. See if there are any diagnostic trouble codes.

Update: I re hooked up the actuator. Did the self diagnosis and it just keeps blinking so my assumption is that would be a DTC 1 issue correct?

There will a 2 second interval before the self-diagnostic begins, then count the number of blink(s) at every 1.5 seconds interval. The number blink(s) will repeat at after each 1.5 interval. That will indicate the DTC code number.

Ok, yea then it would be one blink every 1.5 seconds. Since it says I have an open in my circuit would the mean I have an exposed wire?

An open in the circuit can be due to either of the following:
  • break in wiring or terminal connection
  • faulty air mix control motor
  • faulty heater control panel
The wiring harness that goes between the heater control panel connector and the air mix control motor connector can be checked for continuity.

Air mix control motor can be tested; but, since you have a new part, that may not be the cause of your issue.

Unless some rodent chewed through some wires, it may be indication of a faulty heater control panel.

Ok I’ll do some research then and see if I can’t find a way to test it and possibly replace it

Also idk if this has any relevance, but I have noticed for the past 3 months my lights will flicker occasionally at night I went and had my battery and alternator tested and everything came back fine. I didnt think that this had any correlation but I might as well inform you all just in case it did.

pull climate control panel out. check all the wiring. if you know how to use a multimeter that would be faster to check every wire end for breaks

Ok I’ll check. The wiring looks fine because I installed a new head unit into my car with required sealing the control panel over to a new kit but these issues were occurring before I installed the new head unit. Also I don’t believe my multi meter tips will fit into the harness should I pull the wires out.

multimeter tip should fit into plugs to make contact.

Do the self-diagnostic again with the replacement panel and see if it is still the same trouble code 1.

For trouble code 1, here are the test steps. If your multi-meter probe tips won't fit, just use a couple of needles, T-pins, or small paper clips, etc.. You can test continuity on the wires shown.

Thanks for the replies everyone after some frustraition i discovered a loose connector in side of my dash in between the glove box and the headunit. I also figured out I had to manually reset the actuator so I decided to plug up the old actuator and everything is good now!!!!!
