Default 06-08 si gas mileage

hey guys, was just wondering what kind of gas mileage or miles per tank every1 with an si is getting. i have 332 miles on my current tank with 3 bars left. i do alot of city driving but it just seems i should be doing better. please state whether u have an fa5 or fg2 please because of the slight weight difference. im guessing fg2s do a little better

332 with three bars left? On an Si? When mine has no bars left, it usually takes about 12 gallons, meaning you probably have about 10. Thats 30-35 mpg and you do a lot of city driving? What are you smoking man, thats awesome compared to what some of these guys on here get. I've gotten 400 to a tank, but it was to Niagara Falls, and I was going 70-75...also took it until there were no bars left on the gauge.

So far I have about 3 bars left and I'm at about 250 miles on this tank.

My Si (FG2) has less than 400 miles on it though. I have been enjoying the car and have yet to really try and conserve fuel. Once I get over the new car euphoria Ill plug in my scanguage and see how I can maximize efficiency.
I'd say this tank has been about 70% city.

So you can drive the car safely down to zero bars before you fill up? I got down to one bar and filled up because I didn't want to run dry.

If this post is still lingering on the first page Ill post up how many miles I get out of the tank.

This is with 91 octane Costco gas too.

miles to a tank and how many bars left on the fuel level indicator are not very accurate ways to measure your mpg.

Here is how it's done:

https://www.fueleconomy.gov/mp...lcMPG

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by i-VTEC_DOHC &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">i wonder how my mileage will be with 100 octane. i might try it tomorrow.</TD></TR></TABLE>

A car made to use 87 octane will have fewer mpg if 91 octane is used.
what do you think a car made for 91 octane will do if you use 100 octane?
My guess is that you'd have fewer mpg.

Also, I don't think the stock ECU will advance ignition enough to take advantage of the extra octane for the purpose of making more power. I may be wrong, who knows.

If you wanna spend the extra cash so you can tell everyone you're running 100 octane in your mAd tYte civic si, then go for it. Just don't expect any benefit from it.

sorry i wasnt really specific... i am at 332 with 3 bars left. more than 50% of my driving is city however i do spend some time on the highway. i use 93 octane and when i do drive in the city i stay in 6th to conserve fuel. i usually hover around 1900 rpms at 45mph. ive resisted the urge to use vtec as ive been trying to conserve due to there being NO gas in nc .

Well I went to a race in Braselton GA. I live in Charlotte NC so it was 220 miles to the track from my house. So before I left on the trip I filled my car up. On my way back I stopped and filled my tank around the halfway mark. I put right around 9 gallons and my miles showed 350. So that's 38.8 miles per gallon. Now note...When I filled up before I left I filled it WAY past the first click. I almost got over a gallon more than when it clicked the first time. It was all the way up to the cap. But that was a trip ALL Interstate 85. My Average is right at 30MPG around town.

When I first was breaking it in, I'd never rev it above about 3.5k-4.0k. Got some pretty nice numbers.

how many gallons did it take to fill up after 280 miles? how did you get your 26mpg figure?

ok. you have miles. how many gallons to fill back up? were you full when you started?

for the people that didn't wanna click the link:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by fuelmileage.gov &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">MPG can be calculated in four easy steps:
Step 1. Filling the vehicle's gas tank completely and writing down the vehicle's odometer reading (mileage). Example: The last time the tank was filled, the odometer reading was 32,645.1 miles.

Step 2. When it's time to refuel, filling the tank completely and writing down the number of gallons it took to fill the tank and the vehicle's new odometer reading. Once two odometer readings are taken, MPG can be calculated. Example: The next time the tank was filled, the odometer reading was 33,001.3. It took 13.5 gallons to fill the tank.

Step 3. Calculating the distance driven by subtracting the previous odometer reading from the new one. Example: The distance driven would be 33,001.3 minus 32,645.1, or 356.2 miles.

Step 4. Dividing the number of miles driven by the number of gallons it took to fill the tank. The result is the vehicle's MPG for that driving period.
Example: 356.2 miles divided by 13.5 gallons equals 26.4 miles per gallon.

The MPG for that driving period would be 26.4.

Alternate Method

If you use your vehicle's trip odometer, MPG can be calculated by:
Step 1. Filling the vehicle's gas tank completely and re-setting the trip odometer. Note: Sometimes it's easy to get the main odometer and trip odometer readings confused, especially if the vehicle is new.

Step 2.
When it's time to re-fuel
Filling the tank completely
Writing down the number of gallons it took to fill the tank
Writing down the mileage on the trip odometer
Re-setting the trip odometer Example: It took 9.5 gallons to completely fill the tank, and the trip odometer reads 335 miles.

Step 3. Dividing the number of miles driven by the number of gallons it took to fill the tank. The result is the vehicle's MPG for that driving period. Example: 335 miles divided by 9.5 gallons equals 35.5 miles per gallon.</TD></TR></TABLE>

You won't see an improvement and you may even lower your MPG because your car was designed to run on 91-93 octane.

Once it clicks STOP PUMPING. Overfilling is bad!

I have filled up my tank past the click only 3 times. Reason being the shortage of 93 around Charlotte. I needed all I could get. And how is going to hurt anything? Just curious.

Rumor has is that topping off your tank past the "click" of the pump can cause the fuel to block off the breather and cause your fuel pressure to fluctuate.... dont hold me to this... im in a hurry and didnt search the truth.. but im sure someone will accurately describe it.

as for the gas mileage your getting in charlotte thats really good... i get about 260 to 280 a tank city driving... i usually drive 5th gear unless im above 50 mph. i tried driving very conservatively but only got about 10 more miles per tank so i just drive in normal.

Topping off ruins the charcoal canister. It causes raw fuel to actually enter the charcoal canister. Once the canister is exposed to raw fuel it is ruined. It absorbs it. Anyone who is unaware of what that does, it serves to burn fuel particles that are emitted from inside the gas tank. This in turn increases fuel ecommony besides being a mandated emmissions device.

Basically, DONT top off. Not only can you ruin your canister but also may decrease fuel economy.

As far as gas mileage is concerned for the OP. As long as you are dividing your trip mileage with your required gallons to fill up on that tank your MPG should be accurate

Coopereric, How many miles do you have on the car? I've noticed the more miles I have on the car, the better gas mileage I get. I now have around 46K on the car. I use to get around 250 a tank. Also try being a little more conservative with how you drive. Try to use more cruise control. And keep an eye on your tire pressure.
