I've heard horror stories about performance chips and programs from cars before, what's you take on it?

It's just a resistor you put somewhere, and it tricks the car to make it think colder air is comming in. Most likely you won't notice much of a difference, and it won't be great for your car in the long run.

yea i figured as much. When i had my parents chevy in for service one time. This guy came in with his brand new 06 Corvette. And he told the service guys that he woke up this morning and it won't start. They asked him if he had done anything and he's like nope it just won't start then he's like before you inspect it you should know i put a performance program in it the other day but that's not why it won't start. The service guy and I just gave him a blank stare.....
I know trucks and stuff have performance chips that do things, muscle cars too, probably. But not our little Hondas. Nothing cheap anyway, besides the controllers Apex-i makes.

Very hard to say if performance chips are bad. To be honest with you it all depends on what car the chip is for and the company who develops it. Because I have a VW 1.8Turbo GTI, and there are company developers that mass produce peformance chips for european cars. I personally have a performance chip by GIAC, a very reputable company. Its an amazing bang for your buck, guaranteed increase of 40+ hp and tq. Also FI vehicles respond way better to performance chips then N/A vehicles anyway. But again I suggest researching the company to see it's reputation, customer testimonials and how long they have been established for, in regards to the performance chips. But for Honda's many people go with a chipped ecu, or a standalone system to tune the ecu.

^^^^ VW, etc... chips are on the ECU. This thing is one of those inline resistors that changes the IAT reading so the car throws more fuel in. Its pointless.
Equating a GIAC chip to Honda is something like a Hondata Flash.
The D17 ecu is not programmable, nor will the ECU respond very well to being fooled, it will just learn around it.

Any company that produces "performance chips" will install a chip or reconfigure your ecu with a specific program to "enhance" the performance of the car.
