I need a spare master key for my 2002 Civic EX. I called the local dealer and they want $45!. I understand that the key has a chip and needs programmed, blah, blah ,blah. But $45!!?

Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative that works? I saw blanks on Ebay for as low as $6. But if I get one, can any locksmith cut it and I program it...thereby saving me $35?

Any input would be great.

You still need to match the key with the ECU, as the car has an electronic immobilizer that matches the key ring on the column, ECU, and the key itself.

Isn't that the same thing as "programming"? I just want to know if I get the correct key other than at the dealership, if I can get it cut and have it programmed so it works. (I'm good friends with a local import repair shop)

You're lucky, around here they charge $115. Some of the locksmiths around here can do it but, they charge the same. Call the locksmiths near you and see what they can do.
