Default Difference?

Hello Everyone!

I'm extremely new to honda vehicles, and I don't own one yet, but I'm looking at possibly purchasing an '04 Civic. My newb queston has probably been asked a million times here, but both google and a search here haven't been much help. Mostly because they cut out words shorter than 3 characters...

Anyway, the '04 I spotted is a DX coupe, and I also found an SI coupe for sale. Can someone tell me what the differences are between the DX and the SI? The DX is a 1.7 with a 5-speed, and the SI, I'm not sure. A few things are obvious, the DX doesn't have a rear spoiler, and probably had steelies and hubcaps, where the SI has aluminum wheels. (the DX has upgraded rims and rubber, so I don't know what was on there before.) The SI ad also mentions a 5-speed. The DX has provisions in the front bumper for driving lights, but there aren't any. And the picture of the SI I can't tell.

So does the DX have a SOHC and the SI a DOHC or something? Rear discs on the SI? better suspension? Better gears? LSD?

There's only a 4,000 dollar difference between the DX and the SI. If there's a big difference, then its worth it, but if the drivetrain and rolling gear are the same, then it probably won't be, as I'd defenitley like to upgrade!

Also, this is a Canadian car.

Thanks very much for the help!!

DX is single cam, the SI is a dual cam vtec. And in a nutshell, yes the SI is gonna be a better choice performance-wise.

Do yourself a favor, Get the Si. If you don't you'll regret it later.

If you're in Canada, the Si over there is the equivalent to the EX here in the States. D17A2 SOHC 127 hp w/ VtAk POwA. 15" steel wheels with hub covers. Variety of other stuff.

Even the SI has a SOHC motor? What in Canada comes with a DOHC motor? The SI-R?

Yes, here in Canada, the Si is still the EM2, with a SOHC VTEC D17a2 giving 127bhp, DX is the same car, except with D17a1, giving 115bhp.

The Si-R is the EP3 (hatchback). It has a K20A3 DOHC i-VTEC giving you 160bhp, it's the same engine in the base RSX model.

He is in red deer alberta so hes canadian.

THe Si has a 5 speed tranny rear spoiler aluminum 15" mags, d17a2 ( 1.7L Vtec motor) and a power sunroof.

The DX has probably no power options, no tach, no sunroof, 13 or 14" hubcaps.

DX was the BASE model here in canada, while the Si was the top model( excluding the SiR)

If u want a good reliable car with a nice interior, the Si is a good choice, if u want a commuter, get the DX.

If u want ANYTHING that can go fast.... dont get a 7thgen

the real question is, what are you looking for in a car? do you want a car with no options or something thats slightly better? ex. sunroof, power windows, VTAKKK, etc.

Well I wanted something fully loaded, with a sunroof. Gotta be a coupe, and gotta have alot of performance potential. Sounds like the RSX is a better choice for me. I wanted a DOHC 4 Cylinder motor, but I could settle for a big six (Tiburon GSR or 350Z).

Sorry!
