Hi Guys,

Wondering how many gears are in this transmisson I have on my car as it does not upshift after a long drive, the engine rpm goes high but speedometer does not go past 60 Km. Fluid is clear amd not low also cleaned all solenoids, all working, mechanic suggested to be issue with gears. Im looking for tranny now but seems there are 4 gears and 5 gear ones.

Does anyone know how many gears are there ? so much confusion as I heard BMXA is 4 gear and SLXA is 5. Can someone who really knows the transmissons can help me out.

The only way to drive is to switch off the engine and start after 10 min or so then car starts driving big headache if in city. As I come to a stop then start to move the car seems to be the lowest gear then wont upshift until I switchoff and start again.

What I have been told is the current one is 5 gears if I put the 4 gear tranny the car will be a gas guzzler so I need to be really sure on this .

It's a 4 speed.

There is no swapping between 4 and 5 speeds. They are electrically different and require different computers and harnesses.

So both the BMXA and SLXA are 4 speed ?

Car origin is Japan, I was told its 5 speed by a trusted mechanic. But due to doubts need reliable answer. Other mechanics and spare parts dealers say it only comes with 4 gears. Check below post he mentions slxa has 5 gears.

JDM changes everything. We kind of assume US market here.
