CEL: P1456 Evap Code
I just bought this car last Sunday, so I've had it for about 5 days or so. I received the car with no CEL that Sunday and the car was running fine, it was just low on gas. On the drive home the fuel light had turned on and I wanted to fill up by my house which was about 10 miles away. I get to the gas station by my house and pump gas and I have a habit of topping off the gas to the nearest dollar so it can be even. So I fill up about an extra dollar worth of fuel and remember tightening the cap like 4-5 clicks.
The next day I needed to get a smog check since the seller had not done it and I figured I'll take care of it. So I went to get the smog check, paid for my title transfer and all fees while I was there. The car passed smog with no problem. The next morning as I'm driving to work the check engine light comes on. I take it that same day to a local auto repair place and they check the code and it turned out to be the P1456 Evap code. They figured it was the gas cap that was loose so they just tightened it and cleared the code. Two days later, the code pops up again. I go to auto zone to make sure its the same code and it is. Unfortunately, they did now want to clear it for me.
Have you guys experienced something like this? I did some research and it seems to be fairly common. What do you guys recommend I start with?
The car is a 2002 Honda Civic LX with about 135k miles.

Check your fuel cap, make sure you click it hella times when closing it, It says minimum of 3 clicks. It happens all the time with this model very annoying. Try that and reset your ecu

What condition is the gas cap seal in? Is it an OEM cap, or an aftermarket one? The OEM cap should say "If not tightened 3 clicks the check engine light may come on." and have the Honda "H" logo.
If the seal on the cap is bad, replace it. If the cap is good, you have an issue with the EVAP system. I recommend you get yourself a service manual. Click here. You will want 61S5C01. (check online for a used one, too)
