Default alternator/ charging issues

will other dseries alternators fit the d17? im having a charging issue with my 2001 DX coupe five speed, CDM model. Ive changed the battery out and the problem is persistent. The battery light comes on below 3k, however if i open the car up and pull to rev limiter the light will stay out. It seems like the alt produces the right amount of voltage to charge the battery at high rpm but low rpm it will not charge the battery. Any ideas of what it might be besides the alternator? ive checked all the grounds and they're fine.

I believe the harnesses from previous generation D-series are slightly different.
