Default 2004 Honda Civic Si

Hello, I am looking for bit of advice, I have been offered a 2004 Civic Si free from a relative who just wants it taken from his driveway. He has had a lot of mechanical work done in the last 2 years, new clutch, brakes, belts, alternator, suspension components and more but has recently relocated and wants me to take the car. He has been told by his regular mechanic that the car has computer issues. He says the body is pretty good and if I want it I could have. Does this sound like a vehicle that would be reliable for a few years if i get it running? It has about 230,000 on it. Does it sound like it would be costly to get it running. Any advice would be good. I think it is a coupe

I would personably not be worried about the reliability of the car. If maintained well, it should be very reliable and cheap to operate and maintain, even past 300k miles. A new engine computer (ECU) should be easy to acquire for an affordable price as the engine in that car is not uncommon for Honda/Acura vehicles. I would be curious as to why it's having computer issues.

As a note, the '04 Civic Si is different than the cars people post about in this section of the forums. '04 Civic Si was only made as a 2 door hatchback with a 5 speed manual transmission, 2 liter K-Series engine ~160hp for the USA.

As opposed to the standard 01-05 Civics with 1.7 liter D series engines in the low 100hp range in either 2 or 4 door configurations with automatic/manual/cvt transmission options.

Can you tell what my favorite color on these cars is?

Thank you for the reply utn. Going by what my nephew has told me his "go to mechanic" who performed all the mechanical work suggested that he had a possible computer issue. With being told he replaced the alternator I was thinking maybe that was the cause of the computer issue. I will be going to look at the car today to decide if I will take it as a project. It has sat for a year and a half so I am sure a battery and new fuel will be the first thing before I turn the key. What vehicle information should I gather before reporting back to the community? thanks again.

I did get a look at this car and found out the car ran good when it was parked other than having the "electrical" light coming on. I looked at the car and the body is pretty good. The brakes that were replaced 6 months before the car was parked are completely rusted up. The car has a 2 L VTEC engine, 5 speed standard transmission. The engine bay looks like a car that has been sitting a long time. I could not pull the dipstick for some reason, i assume there is a trick to this. I will pull the battery and see if it will charge and attempt to start. How can I get the old gas out of the lines prior to starting, I would think this would be a good idea, Any advice is appreciated

This information is not accurate. In Canada, the Si model is a coupe, not a hatchback. It is equivalent to the US-market EX. The Canadian hatchback is labeled as an Si-R. (Overall model years are 2002-2005, where the early generations of the car are 2002-2003 and the latter being 2004-2005.)
