Default 2004 Civic: One High Beam No Power and DRLs Not Working

Hello everyone,

Just joined to poke some brains and see if anyone can provide some insight into these cars for me.

My father drives a 2004 Civic (EX I believe) and last week he mentioned to me that his DRLs (Canadian car) are no longer working but headlights still are so he has been flipping those on for now.

I had him bring it over today and verified the troubles. Put the key in the ignition and start the car, the DRL light on the dash lights up. According to the manual it should be OFF when ignition is running, headlights are OFF and parking brake is OFF. If it remains on there is an issue with the DRL system or possibly the high beams. A quick test of the high beams shows the passenger side not working.

I quickly checked the fuses for DRLs, #3 (10A) and #11 (7.5A), both looked good but I swapped them anyways. No change to behaviour.

Pulled the high beam from the passenger side, it looked fine but since it's 2013 now and he has had the car since about 2007/2008 we figured to replace it anyways. The new bulb still does not light up.

I probed the plug for the high beam and there is no voltage on it.

That's where we left it for now. Low beams are working when headlight switch is on, drivers high beam works fine.

Anybody run into this instance before?

Thanks

You can do the DRL control unit input test to be sure but, I think your DRL control unit has gone bad.

Here's a fix for a bad DRL control unit: http://www.nyx.net/~smanley/hondadrlfix/

Yep I would said that's a reasonable diagnosis! Never knew about this, will give me something to do after the holidays.

This thread is pretty much spot on except that both DRLs are dead in my case and I don't recall a buzz but I wasn't in the car listening over the running motor so he may have that as well.

Cheers!
