Wetsanded my paint, now what do I need to do?
On the weekend I wetsanded a little bit with 800 grit paper, so today I went with 1200 and 1500 grit paper, had a constant flow of water on the car while doing this, car looks real foggy and Im ready to move on
Can anyone give me tips on what I need to buy now? compound? polish....
Im doing it by hand and I dont care if it takes 2 days, its going on by hand. I couldnt find a thread with the same question about afterwtsading so I hope you can answer
Also looking for good brands and stuff, my local stores have a **** supply

I'm thinking around 2000?

It gets rids of the "orange peel" to give you a glass finish.

yes if you are doing it by hand i would go to 2000 it will be much easier to get out
3m products are good just compound it then polish it,best bet is go to a local bodyshop and ask them where they get their compounds and then take a trip over their
I no you said you dont care but a buffer makes it a hell of alot easier and faster

Re: (1fst4)
lol its not that I dont care, sure Id rather use a buffer, but I dont have the $200+ for a nice one, this was a budget paint job, would like it to stay that way
The 1500 looks to be smooth as hell though and that was the higest my local Napa carried, canadian tire only went to 1200
Will the Turle Rubbing Compound work? It is the same stuff right as everyone is telling me about right?

Im assuming turtle wax isnt a brand of 3M? I dont have the stuff infront of me
Will it still work
I also have Turtle Wax scratch and swirl remover, should I use this after compounding?

Re: (1fst4)
yep, your supposed to use the 3 m rubbing compound at low speeds with a buffer
then foam pad machine glaze , after that do the whole car with some hand glaze.
800 is way too harsh to color sand with , if you want it to be as smooth as possible, use 1500, and the go to 2000, if your really ****, after that you can hit it with some 3000 grit and then compound it, but becarefull you dont burn thru the clear, or you will be painting it all over

Re: (.:s h a w n D:.)
wot, you dont seem to bright. you created another thread for the same **** you're asking for. But for some reason you dont think they're the same.
You asked what to do after you wet sand. in your other thread me and a few others said 3m rubbing compound.
Funny, you're gettin the same answers in here too.
I even said how to apply the compound, etc.
If you're not this bright to read up on your own threads. i dont see any chance of your car coming out to what you expect.
W O T (7:50 PM 6/16/2004): First thread was with me oly sanding with 800 grit, going to 2000 now and also doing it by hand, knwone even answeered my question in the first thread on how and what to apply

Re: (NrG)
I use to work at a bodyshop and IMO 800grit was way to harsh for a wetsanding job to restore paint.
We wetsand with 800/1500 grit before we put new paint down...
I would have suggested 2000grit + compond...
I hope you didnt ruin your paint.
