Taillights...WETSANDING
I have some taillights that I would like to finish painting and was advised to wetsand to prevent scratching of the taillights. My question is how do I wetsand
What is wetsanding and how would I do this? I know I, as well as some others would appreciate it. Please help if you can

Well first go to your local garden store and buy a big bag of sand. Add some water and pour in your tailight.
No really...
They sell a SUPER FINE like 800 grit sandpaper, in fact they make finer grits. Find the finest grit you can, and you actually sand on a wet surface. Thats pretty much it. Super Fine Grit + Water + Sanding Action. The sandpaper almost feels smooth to the touch. There are different kinds, and some will say for use with wetsanding. Just go to your local hardware store and check it out.
I guess whoever gave you the directions wanted you to "rough-up" the surface of the tailights before painting, which is a good idea. This super-fine grit sandpaper will "rough-up" the surface but it will appear smooth to the eye.

when i painted my tails, i wet sanded with 1500 sand paper. you canuse 1000 as well, but its the same stuff to sand out "orange peel" in paint. very fine grit.
the purpose of wet sanding is that since the grit is so fine, it will clog up less if it is wet. whereas if u try sanding dry with such a grit, it will clog up immediately, meaning you will go thru the piece of sand paper in ur first swipe.

Many people reccomend wet sanding then using a plastic polish to clean up old looking tail lights and head lights. I belive Mother's makes a good plastic polish. Just make sure the last grit you use is something like 1500, and try not to make messy sand marks. Keep the sanding consistent.
