Default RHD Conversion?

If I were able to locate a JDM EF9 Front clip, how hard would it be to convert it to RHD? I can think of 2 ways to do it. I could cut my current front end off and weld the JDM front clip in, but I'm afraid that it would weaken the chassis since it will be in 2 pieces. The other option would be to cut a hole in the current firewall and relocate all of the pieces from the JDM front clip onto my current frame. If that’s not too hard, I'd like to try to do it myself, but seeing as I've never done it, it seems kinda complicated. Any ideas? I'm pretty set on doing this, just need to figure out some options. Thanks alot.

i say go for cutting the hold first, and if that doesnt work then chop the front off and weld the new one on. Your right is gonig to weaken the chassis but the crx is already a death trap anyway. so what the hell

i know a guy that tried the cut in half and weld front clip on route.... lets just say that it didnt work, he drove it for a few days, hit a huge pothole and his car cracked, then he tried to drive it back to his shop, on the way there it worsened enought that the frame hit the ground and he had to scrap the thing

i was considering the same, best bet is to swap the lower section of the firewall (completely!) from the front of the floorpan all the way up to the sill underneath the VIN in the engine bay. you will notice this sill has room for a brake master cylinder on both sides, because this piece is the same between US/ JDM cars. after it was no longer an option any time soon, i kept researching and came up with a few more problems. #1, the subframes are different, possibility that the JDM steering rack and rear crossmember might not follow the same bolt pattern. #2, you better have the complete wiring harness, and a lot of time to trace where some of the cutoff wires run to -- (low level fuel sender, door/ hatch open lights) a continuity meter would be a big help there. if only i had a welder....RHD would be mine!!! muhaaaaahaaaahaaaa!!!

How about using the JDM firewall as a template in which to cut holes in my current firewall? Would that work? Also, I was considering swapping the whole firewall itself, but I'm not sure if its connected to the frame or not, wouldn't want the structural integrity to be hurt you know? The front clip should come with the complete wire harness so that’s shouldn’t be a major problem. I don’t really know about the sub frame and rear cross member b/c I haven’t actually seen the front clip before. If it’s different, can it be swapped or is this a frame thing? If it can’t be swapped, can this stuff be welded on somehow? Anyway, I’d appreciate it if you’d respond. Thanks.

Oh yeah, have you seen the latest Super Street? It has a RHD converted CRX. I wonder how he did it?

yeah, i saw that golden piece of JDM heaven. haha. no, the firewall itself does have to be replaced. the both have unique sections on them that could not be duplicated easily, ECU mounts, harness mounts, heater core, blower motor, condensor mounts. the list goes on. swapping the firewall is the way to go. pull back your carpet and take a look at the caulk lines on the seams. this is where the firewall would come out. i myself have never seen the JDM subframe either, but i would NOT try to weld these pieces on if the bolts didn't line up, alignment could very easily be shot to hell.

So you're saying, replacing the whole firewall is the way to go. Hmm..ok...seems easy enough. The only thing left worrying about is the subframe. I wonder if anyone has done it before. Well obviously the guy with the CRX did it, but I wonder how. I want to assume that his bolts lined up too, and that it'd be the same with a Civic...but I'd be getting way ahead of myself.

there is a good possibility it will all line up. i just don't want to get everyones (including me!) hopes up. also, when swapping your firewall, i would think that you want to support the whole underside of the car while swapping the firewall to avoid destroying the windshield if the body sagged. i think is unlikely though, never can rule anything out. i need a new windshield anyway.

I've thought for hours and so no reason why someone would want to do this other than to be a biter and a fad follower, but.....

Just clip the car, buy a JDM front clip with windshield pillars and front floor. Have a GOOD body shop clip the car just like they would a totaled CRX. Probably 20% of the people on this board are driving CRXs that have had front clips welded on and they don't know it. Its a common practice in the body world. What they will do is cut the floor somwhere probably around where your feat go (I'd guess there is a seam somwhere in there but really can't remember) and cut the A-pillar. They'll put a sleeve in the A pillar, slide the new clip on to that sleeve to make a stronger a pillar, and weld the new floor on. It will be as stong as new if not stronger. Unfortunately you'll be stuck with a car that looks like it should belong to a mail man or a stunna.
