Re-clearing hood, clear won't stick
I was told by a couple people on here that I could reclear my VIS hood because it was starting to fade. My body shop guy told me that it couldn't be done because of the gel coating the hood uses, but after talking with some people who know their **** about CF I told him to go ahead to sand and spray.
I go to look at it today after it was sprayed and its fish eyeing, the coating on the hood isnt letting the clear stick. Basically, is there a special method to reclear the hood, or should I just color match it?

Fish eyes are caused by contaminants such as oil or silicone. Did you wax your hood? If you did, maybe the shop didnt take the proper steps to clean the hood before painting, leaving wax remnants there fore causing fish eyes. Or it could be there were small pinholes in the gelcoat, there fore when they cleared the hood the pinholes sucked in the clear. There is nothing wrong with reclearing a carbon hood, you just have to wet sand it with 800 or 1000 grit sand paper. If the gel coat is discolored though, the clear is not going to fix it.

I honestly feel it was not prepped correctly. Gel coats are very adhesive and are easy to paint. I sell hoods with a clearcoat and we have no problem shooting them.
