Here is what I can see just from that picture.
1. VIA JWL stamp is on the wrong spoke, it should be to the right of the valve stem.
2. The groove in the spoke doesn't go far enough, it should go closer to the barrel.
3. The edge of the lip is too flat, it should be slightly rounded.
4. There is a groove on the back of the barrel which the real wheels do not have.

I should have known from the groove on the barrel, that does look off now that you mention it. Didn't know that about the stamps

They are most likely slipstreams, they make pretty good replicas but if you know what to look for they are easy to spot. I hope he knows they are fake and didn't pay thinking they are real.
