Painting my teg
Im getting ready to get my integra painted, but I am buying all of the paint and clear coat and what not.
My main question is how much paint and how much clear coat is needed to paint the full car?
And what is some pretty good paint that isnt gonna cost an arm and a leg?
Thanks alot

Re: Painting my teg (95GSRTT)
Paint will run around 2-5 bills depending on which brand.
I would use ppg, but there is ppg's cheap **** Omni which I have on my ae86 which turned out pretty nice but I had a decent painter.
2-3bills Omni
4-5bills ppg
Those prices include pretty much everything you need w/o a hook up.

Re: Painting my teg (95GSRTT)
depends on brand and mixture ratio. Dupont chromabase mixes 1:1, so about 3/4 of a gallon would be enough. Dupont Nason mixes 2:1, so a gallon would be needed. Most all clearcoat mixes 4:1 so 1 gallon usually does me fine. The Nason is usually around $75 a gallon here in Va. Chromabase is a little more expensive. If you are doing a color change, add another 1/2 gallon to your list for door jams, trunk jams and so forth. I always use Dupont brand, so sorry if I'm no help.

are you painting door jams, under hood and trunk, engine bay ect. if so 3 quarts of base should be plenty (if the base mixes 1 : 1) 1 gallon of clear will be plenty. as far as brand it really dosent matter. i sell paint and have alot of experience with many paint lines and can tell you its not the paint is the painter. dont get me wrong there is paint out there i wouldnt put on my weed eater. i personally like VALSPAR. there price is not outragious like DUPONT and PPG and it is very good paint. besides they make HOUSE OF KOLOR paint now and you know its good.

all you need is 2 gallons of paint, and 1 of clear, 2 if you want to protect paint better and if done right you will have an awsome look. Just remember the final product depends on the actual body work prep. Good luck.

one gallon ? my brother paints cars in L.A. A quality job consist of 3 or more gallons. 2 is enough to do whole car door jambs, engine bay, etc. The person who posted did not specify what type of finish product he wanted. You say you paint cars you know what a good paint job consist of, so 2 gallons in my opinion should give him a good all around turnout. But than again the body work/painter must have skills.

Re: Painting my teg (doggydog)
ok MAYBE 1.5 gallons (3 gallons of sprayable paint if mixed 1 : 1) to paint the whole car and i mean under hood engine bay under trunk lid under car inside car door jams in the trunk and anywhere else you can spray it, but any thing else whould just be to much paint for a teg. sorry thats just the way it is.

Door jams will not be painted, and neither will the engine bay. Pretty much just the exterior of the car will be painted.
I want a pretty good looking paint job, but I dont think spending 2-3k on a 94 integra with 200k on the chasis is what i have in mind either.
So the concesus so far is roughly 1-1.5 gallons of paint and about a gallon of clear is that correct?
Also do any of you know of a good place to get said paints for a good price?
I know people say that you can get paint mixed at napa, but how do you know what paint they use or do you just tell them what kind you want? Thanks again

If you do not want to spend said money, get or ask around if someone might know a person who does bodywork. Then you can take your car to one day paint/ or earl shieb and you can get a decent paint job for under $300-500. Good luck and ask around.

Re: Painting my teg (95GSRTT)
Get PPG or DUPONT!!! Omni is horrible, it has parifin wax in it to prevent fisheyes, but what happens is it has adhesion problems. Spend the extra bucks on ppg or dupont.

best thing to do is get out the phone book and call around. get prices and also ask the people you talk to how much it will take to paint your car with there product. they will be more then happy to help you out. but dont let anyone tell you that you will need more then 3 quarts to paint just the outside of your car. i painted a 2000 4 door accord allover with 3 quarts and had some left over.

Re: Painting my teg (95GSRTT)
no more than $300. but thats not including primer. if you needed primer add about 50 or 60 bucks max for enough to do a teg which would be about 2 quarts. DUPONT would run about $550 for the same set up. but honesly its not worth it.
