The new EH2 rally car.
Also posted in the rr/autoX forum, but I thought you guys might want to take a look as well.
Some of our team went over to Vancouver B.C. today to pick up our new rally car.
We ended up going with a 1992 Civic VX, with about 195,000 Miles on it. She runs well enough, and the suspension is getting re-done anyways. The best part: Aside from 12 years of dents and scrapes, there is ZERO rust on the car. We've already got it stripped, and are going to put it through 1 TSD rally before commencing the buildup over the winter.
Here she is, sorry about the picture quality.
Front shot:
VX YO!
Already stripped.
Hello fury!
Here's what's going in it...
Dusty but clean with only 6000 km's.
Proof is in the numbers.
6 gears and a soon to be Hondata.
A big thanks goes to all of Team 4 Rallysport, as nobody could hope for a better bunch of guys to have on a team.

Believe it or not, these cars are VERY well suited for the sport.
With some owners not changing the oil for 100,000 miles, never doing a tune up, not filling the tires etc. and yet the car still runs, is a testement to the durability.
This translates directly to rallying. With our EF we only had to tighten certain bolts, and change the fluids on a regular basis. Other than that, it survived things that I never though possible, and also produced 5 podium finishes, as well as other notable results for our CV.

Believe it or not, FWD cars are exceptionally capable when it comes to rallying. Remember, you don't have any rotational issues on gravel, as off throttle and left foot braking induce enough oversteer to change the angle, while the front wheels pull you out. It really is a thing of beauty having a Civic ACTUALLY drift.
Also: I don't know if you guys follow the WRC events, but they used to have these cars known as "Kit Cars." The kit cars were FF cars, such as the Pugeot 306, Seat Ibiza, Citroen Xsara etc. These cars were incredible rally cars. Computer controlled diffs, 240+hp NA, and in Monte Carlo (1999 if I'm notmistaken) the Citroen Xsara finished 2nd OVERALL, beating many WR cars.
All these questions about Tuborg. Yes, it is very good. Don't you guys get it in the States?

Using the DC2 or EK suspension, we can increase the ride height considerably.
We had a very ghetto ride height increase in the last car (SiR 99-00 springs and EF Bilstein HD's) and it worked very well. We will also be adding a sizable skid plate, so hopefully we will be ok.
BTW, what mounts are you using?

Re: The new EH2 rally car. (slowhatch4now)
We're trying to figure out a way to get our Chief Mechanic's K-pro out of his RSX-S. He might not be too happy about it though...

I would suggest using the Hasport mounts, I have been told that they offer a little more clearance than most of the other mounts. You are a little better off starting with the EG chassis since it does have a little better (i think an inch or two) clearance than the EK kit (because of the differrence in rear crossmembers and steering racks). I think that the skid plate is a must and a fairly high ride high seems like it is in the plans.
If you have any questions about stuff try PMing (Brian G) he works for hasport.
Also you can go here ( K20a.org ) this site is dedicated soley to the K series motors and swapping them in to different chassis'.

Yes a front wheel drive honda is obviously capable of rallying in spite of the fact that NONE of the WRC rally cars are front wheel drive.
Oh wait..

You know what I mean though. The 100,000 was just a big number to prove the point. I'm amazed at some of the stuff these cars will handle.
For instance, our thermostat was jammed shut in our last car during a summer event, and the temp guage pushed the needle past 270degrees! The car still made it to the end of the stage, and brought us back in 1 piece.
BTW, all of the Junior WRC cars are FF. They rip pretty good for 1600cc's!
