Yeah, Nikon is pretty damn good. But I think the Carl Zeiss lens on the Sony digi-cams are just as good if not better.

I would agree with you on that, I'm having a very hard time trying to decide between the DSC-f717 and the Nikon Coolpix 5700.

How do these new cameras fair as far as shutter speed go? I went to the grand prix in Miami last year, I would snap a picture and by the time it took the pic, the car already passed. I ended up having to snap the picture before the car came into frame for me to get it in the picture. I have an old Sony DSC-S50, 2mp

Look for a camera that has a setting in which you can change the shutter speed. Go play around in Best Buy. BB lets you touch the merchandise now. Turn on the fun!

That is a huge picture and the quality is horrible as well. Try using a tripod and setting the shutter speed.
