Since posting I removed the W/W rubber cap, it covers a 17 M Nut, tried to loosen to remove it, was so tight was reluctant to apply force.
Any suggestions?

Rainy here, need the wipers.

Thanks AquaDios

Replace your linkage rods and your should be good to go. You'll have to remove the wiper arms, cowl, and wiper motor to get to the rods. Two 17mm's and a few 10mm's as well as the plastic cowl clips are all you have to remove.

Today I simply moved the wipers as far up as on the windshiled as possible, about 3 inches, they stopped banging.
I believe the wiper arms need to raised by loosening the 17 M Nut that holds them tight, but it is so tight I'm afraid to use force.
Maybe a "power" gun would work?

You shouldn't be able to easily move the wipers up or down without removing the nut. If you can then the linkage has excessive play. Wipers don't just get out of adjustment unless they've been removed and installed incorrectly. If you just remove the nut and adjust the arms up they will strike the A-pillar. If the linkage rods are not replaced they will eventually break and you'll end up with one or both wipers completely inoperative. Not a good situation to find yourself.

TYGUY88,

Just got your response, thanks;

I went to the car and find the wipers move from the bottom resting position [Cowell location] easily moved about 2 inches up.
Is that considered "excessive play"?

I do not know if the Wipers have been removed and installed incorrectly because this Honda is a replacement for what Insurance determined to be "totaled" when woman ran into the left front at about 50 mph.
Yesterday in the rain I moved the wipers up until all slack was gone, the wipers worked with no banging on the Cowell, but in about 20 minutes there was very slight contact with Cowell.
Is there an E-Z way to determine If the linkage rods need replacement?

Thanks for your input and effort to help me resolve this safety issue.

If I were working on the car I would definitely consider it excessive. It's a pretty common issue with these. The repair isn't difficult and I imagine you could find a video online fairly easily. An impact makes removing the 17mm's easy but be careful when reinstalling. You don't want to over torque them and that is easy to do with power tools. Good luck and keep us posted.

Went to Dealer, they moved the wiper blades and said "due to the the play the Wiper Transmission needs replacement", about $800.

Is there an available Honda Repair guide with images to show how to remove the Cowell to get to the bushings on the wiper blade are?

Please assist with repair instructions, maybe I can do the job myself?

Thanks

This video should give you an idea of how to get into your linkage. The guys isn't I really doubt you need the full transmission. Usually the sockets on the ends of the linkage rods are just worn out. You can find the rods online for under $20 each. There are two rods and they are different lengths so be sure to get one of each.

Once you get the assembly out of the car there is no need to take it apart. Just carefully pry the rods off and pop the new ones back on. It takes a decent amount of pressure to snap the sockets back in but you can use a pair of pliers wrapped in cloth if you can't get it snapped in by hand.

IMPORTAINT: If you unbolt the transmission from the motor you'll have to make sure you clock it back to exactly where it was. This is where the guy in the video made his mistake. There are scribe marks on both components to help align everything but do yourself a favor and just leave it together. Also remember that you are working with 12 year old plastic. Be careful when pulling the cowl off. The clips tend to break pretty easily and the cowl itself can crack as well. The clips should be easy to find online and reasonably cheap. Just take your time and use brainpower before muscle.

Good of luck and keep us posted!
