Default Negotiating with dealers

I'm getting ready to look for something and was just curious if I could get some advice on what to do as far as negotiating price. Is it good to start with a percentage like 10% or 20%. For example I am looking at a 2007 Certified Accord V6 and it is listed at $14,500. Would it be a waste of time to ask for $2000-$2500 less?

If I can get the Honda financing for certified used cars the interest rates are really good right now and would save on the monthly payment compared to getting a loan at the local credit union.

The margin on used cars is huge. If I were you I would throw out a number like 10 grand to start the negotiations. Then you could probably settle on a price of 12 to 13 grand by the time you are done.

Don't ever feel bad about giving them crazy offers. If you knew how much they actually paid for the used cars you would not feel bad at all. They will always keep negotiating with you. The last thing they want you to do is walk out the door without buying.

Every used car is different in that they were aquired differently. Auction, trade in, wholesalers, etc.. that giving any advice is impossible. Whereas every dealer pays the same amount for new cars so their pricing is easy to determine. Best day to buy a new car is the last day of the month. Unit count unit count. ANyway, kbb.com lists a certified preowned value 2007 LXV6 with 69,000 miles at $16,005. So take that info as you may. Good Luck.
