EX has differnt ECM program, valvetrain upgrades and the muffler has a valve that opens up at full throttle to increase exhaust flow

Has that actually been confirmed by owners?
Going OT a bit. There was a (big) long debate on B15 Sentra SE-R/vs Spec V. There was a 10hp difference due to that exact design muffler, and ECU tuning.
Since many guys mod there cars, some owners dissect their OEM mufflers to find out the truth. The result was no difference. No conclusion was reach even by owners that are Nissan techs that show there was actually no difference in ECU or tuned muffler between the two models.
The conclusion: The difference in 10 hp was due to Marketing.

AFAIK only difference is the exhaust, the physical engine parts are the same.
Same cam's, rockers, head, etc.only things that show parts wise from my looking was the exhaust and the intake rubber hose from TB to MAS has a resonator in the 177hp models.
What value train upgrades are you talking about, only thing show on online parts cat are the emission PZEV) has the lag one exhaust value but thats same on either LX and EX.
Even this article gives info thats there not much differences

I serious doubt there much tuning differences too as peak torque is wrongly the same and at same rpm, they just raised rev limiter to match the slightly higher peak HP and the slight gear ratios that EX has over LX models in 2nd, 3rd an 4th.

its the same physical engine, both k24z3's have same internals. even the tsx k24z3 has almost the same internals except they're running slightly higher compression giving them a 12hp gain over the EX and lx-s engine.

MustangLX6.0, how is the valve actuated?</TD></TR></TABLE>
pressure pretty much at WOT the valve will open, as far as we can tell at work you cant hear an audible difference
