Honda Accord EX V6 6SP (NAVI) Brake Pads
Hello forum,
At 95k I had to replace my rear brake pads for the first time on my Honda Accord EX couple V6 6SP (NAVI). I am light on the brakes. My front pads are still at 6mm after 125k. At 100k I was at the dealer for my inspection at they said my rear calipers had seized and my rear pads needed replaced again. I was able to negotiate for free pads but I had to pay for the calipers. This week at 125k my rear pads began to squeal again (pads are worn). I decided to order my rear pads and take them to the dealer to install to save a couple dollars. I used my VIN number to price rear pads at a half dozen parts stores. The part number for my rear pads is 43022-SV4-G22. Just to confirm the part number I retrieved my dealership service center invoice and I found they used rear pads with part number 43022-S84-A50. 43022-S84-A50 was not listed as a compatible part on any part store website that I checked. I found that the 43022-S84-A50 brake pad is used on 2005 Accord sedans and the 43022-SVA-G22 is used on 2005 Accord coupes. I am sure the pads are very similar but they are obviously recommended for two different vehicles.
Could installing the rear pads designed for the sedan on a couple cause 1.) my calipers to seize, 2.) the pads to wear x5 faster than the original rear pads?
Please offer your advice. What should be my approach when I return to the dealership to confront them on the issue?
Thanks!

Re: Honda Accord EX V6 6SP (NAVI) Brake Pads
I don't see any reason why installing the sedan pads on your coupe would cause the calipers to "lock up". What exactly was locking up? The caliper piston or the caliper guide pins? The brake pads may differ in hardness and stopping power due to the sedan being a heavier vehicle (I think). In regards to taking the vehicle back, I would not purchase another set of brake pads until the Dealer takes a look at the vehicle. 25K miles on a set of pads seems very premature unless you are doing alot of spirited driving. These rear pads are known to wear out more quickly than the front.

Re: Honda Accord EX V6 6SP (NAVI) Brake Pads
Thanks for the response. I unfortunately didn't ask too many questions when the dealer said that my calipers seized up and needed to be replaced. I didn't ask if there was a possible connection between recently replacing the brake pads and the caliper failure. The calipers on the front didn't fail so it seems to be more than a coincidence. I only know that the first pair of rear pads lasted ~95k and the last two rear pads lasted an average of ~15k. The only explanation for the excessive pad wear, since my driving style has not change (I down shift and I don't tailgate to avoid excessive braking), is the fact that they didn't use to correct pads (even though the pads they put on apparently fit). Should the dealer be required to use the Honda OEM brake pads listed for my vehicle?

I don't know what the Dealer's policy is regarding the use of the factory supplied equipment but in my opinion they should be installing the correct parts that belong to that specific vehicle. I would make them replace the stuff free of charge.
