i got 43K miles on my 05 honda accord sedan.well yesterday i got into the store come out and try to start my car and it wont. i get a jump and it starts. i go home once again try to start my car and it wont again. what do you guys think the battery???

i got the stock battery Just to let you guys know. i do have a system and a cap FYI.

if you want an awesome lightweight battery with a lot of power, go with the Braille batteries. They have a 21 lb. Extreme Use battery that can handle most big systems.

Get a yellow to optima. They work great on cars with systems.

original poster, my advice is to get them both tested, your alternator and your battery. if its your battery, which i do not think it is, replace it. a standard battery will be fine. if its your alternator, replace it with a better unit, car audio forums and sites will have higher power honda alternators. i suggest instead of buying a better battery buying a capacitor and a voltometer. extra batteries do help though. i rode about 100 miles in a b18b civic hatch with 2 big 12s with 3 big amps in it with NO alternator belt. thanks to the 2 extra batteries we had for the system. we just left the system off and the headlights off as long as possible.

Yea, the batteries on those years accord don't last too long (Phillips I think is the stock batter that was put on that year accords). The fact that you lasted a good 3 years with it is pretty common for them to go out, but I've replaced those same batteries on those accords that lasted barely 2 years with no system at all. Its more than likely that its just your battery, so just replace it.

If you had a charging issue, most likely that battery light you see on your dash would stay on.

That sounds about right for the average battery in a moderate climate. The life of the battery depends on the climate the car is used in just as much as how you use it. Those of us in the deep south (LA, TX, AL, FL, etc.) know the batteries won't last long here, the heat kills them. Heat & vibration are the worst enemies for a battery. Some of the better aftermarket manufacturers have zoned batteries: one for the northern climates and one for the southern climates.

As far as replacement, I'd stay away from the Optimas unless you have a serious amount of draw from a large amp or something similar. Even then, there's better options out there.

If you have a V6 that uses the group 35 size, the DieHard Platinum is probably the best bang for the dollar. It's about the same price as the optima and utilizes the same technology (AGM), jut comes with a much better warranty (100 months total: first 48 months are 100% coverage, last 52 months are pro-rated) and shelf life (24 months).

The Optima Yellowtop is warranted for 24 months (first 12 are 100%, remaining pro-rated) and has a 12 month shelf life. The Optima redtops are warranted for 72 months (first 36 are 100%, remaining pro-rated) and have a 12 month shelf life. [ DieHard Warranty | Optima Warranty ]

I'll be putting a Platinum in mine here in the next few months. I've had the car since new in Oct of 07 and it has just under 10K miles. Problem is the climate (Baton Rouge, LA) and I do a lot of short trips. It's starting to get weak. Honda also skimps on the OEM batteries, using cheap ones.

The other reason I'm going with the DieHard over the Optima is accessibility. Any Sears Auto will have it and can adjust it if the need arrives. The Optimas are more limited and usually you have to return to the place you bought it at or hope the local AutoZone has it in stock (most keep redtops, but very few stock the yellowtops.)

ok so it was my battery i got it changed i bought a gold diehard battery from SEARs.. i dunno good idea or not but i needed one ASAP and i didnt have time to be looking around...

The Golds are about the same as the redtop Optima (minus AGM, but does have a slightly better warranty — 100 months, first 36 are 100%.)

I don't know what you guys are talking about with the alternator. 2005 alternators are pretty good, you're thinking about the garbage Delphi alternators that were on the older generation.

Yes OP those batteries are dropping like flies. If you get a battery get a top of the line, no middle of the road stuff. FYI Honda has a 100 month battery that has a CCA upgrade from your OEM battery (made by Interstate Batteries)
