Gas mileage solution questions.. 2005 ACCORD
I have a 4 banger 2005 Accord and wanted to know what I can do to improve my MPG. I get about 250-275 miles per tank, granted it hasn't gone that low, but I live in the city and fight traffic 6 days a week !
I heard about grounding wires, but have heard mixed reviews. Are there any proof or documentation? I'm not talking eBay ones, I'm talking ground systems by HKS and what not.
Should I get after market plug wires or something?
All things are in check, car is stock.
Thanks

Depends on how run down he gets. I usually fill up my car (yeah a saturn) at 280-300 miles on the tank, but i can run on fumes and get almost 400 miles running on fumes. To accurately find out how much fuel you're using; You have to fill up and reset the trip meter (GPS for more accuracy) to ZERO.
Drive normally (if you're a leadfoot, driving like gma isn't getting you decent statistics) until you're comfortable you can't go much farther on that tank.
Go back to the SAME PUMP using the SAME METHOD of fill up (If you held it down all the way, do so again. If you use the auto-shut off handsfree filling method do it that way) adn fill up till it clicks again (do not top off).
Divide miles by how many gallons you used (263 miles divided by 9.54 gallons for example will give you 27.568MPG).
Record that, and do the same over a period of a few tanks.
That should give you a pretty good idea.
As for all the wire gimmicks, as well tuned car will out perform a poorly tuned car with the greatest gadgets on it. That's my say on it.

Re: (Splaturn)
Hi,
I don't do any mods and all the checkups and fluids are in check. I don't do all that crap, but I do admit the ethanol sh8t could be a factor. I don't let the car run down ever but we refill when its about 240-260 miles per tank. Same vicinity and area as well.
It's odd cuz my V6 gets 220-240 b4 we fill so I dunno. Maybe I'm just paranoid and tired.

Re: (FishyMan)
what's this talk about ethanol, and what's this talk about a v6 you have?
Different cars have different tanks. If you had the same car except v6, are the fuel capacity the same? are you hauling more weight? again, many factors...
and ethanol doesn't have a positive effect on most cars.

Re: (Uncle Ben's)
the gasoline around my area have 10% ethanol or some renewable fuel.
in terms of getting mpg and miles per tank, i suppose it's just how it is w/ the accord. not much difference or change has been done to it. car is stock, but i read about those ground kits, and all these stuffs about possibly helping out the car.

i'm in the mist of chaning up my v6 maxima for a civic, but still saving up and researching.

Re: (FishyMan)
Would filling up the car, then driving an even 100 miles, filling up the car again and seeing how many gallons it took and divide it by the 100 miles be a good way of determing milage?

Re: (Accord1234)
I would say no on the 100 miles. I would do it over a better range of miles. Maybe 3 or 4 tanks. So far, I have gotten between 23-25 mpg on the first few tanks with 100% city driving.
Also, I read a report done by the government that said that the difference between 65 and 75 on the highway is 3-5 mpg depending on the car. Just some food for thought...

Meh, I've gotten 37 MPG in my b16 hatch @ 80 mph for a long trip, and 38 MPG in my LS for a 275 mile trip @ 80 mph. I've also seen articles that say AC doesn't affect MPG.
