I have a V6 Accord 4 door and I get about 24 MPG around town, its alittle better on the Highway. I like the extra power so if I do need it its there. Gas prices aren't going to be high forever. Where I live its down to 3.28 a gallon. I would recommend the V6

I have an 05 Accord v6 and I get 25 in the city beating on it quite often. I haven't taken a highway trip yet, so I can't tell you what the highway MPG is, but I am very impressed with the city MPG.

Are you serious? Oil is starting to head back up. You don't think it's going to fall down to 2.00 a gallon, do you? The national average is something like 3.85 right now, which is still utterly ridiculous to those of us old enough to remember what it's like to be a broke teenager putting $5 in your car and driving almost 100 miles on it. I still remember the shock when I filled up my first car at $20 for the first time. Now it costs $40 to fill up my Civic and I never let the gas light come on, and $60 to fill up the Accord.

If you can afford the higher purchase price of the V6, I would go for it. The mileage is not that much less with the V6. I have an 03 V6 and the smooth, quiet power has spoiled me, so I could not go back to a 4 cylinder.

I've always had a V6 and before I bought my Accord a couple of months ago I considered the 4 banger. Took it for a drive and hated it...No power at all. I bought the V6 and am VERY happy with it. Definitely go with the V6...Worst feeling would be spending thousands on a car and then not liking the motor.

I have an '04 EX 2.4 4 cylinder, and I'm happy with it's performance--no reservations whatsoever.

See this review--they specifically talk a number of times about how happy they are with the power:

http://www.edmunds.com/apps/vd...ber=1

Here's a paragraph about one reviewer's impressions on it's power: "The Accord is the first car I've driven in some time that has made me seriously reconsider my affection for bigger engines. The power is there, and the refinement is there — there isn't even a hint of that frenetic thrashing I used to associate with inline fours. If I can have good fuel economy without giving up quietness and power, count me in."

Here's a paragraph about the fuel economy specifically: "Fuel economy is going to be a strong point for our long-term Accord, as it averaged 26 miles to the gallon on its first tank. Highway travel yielded over 29 mpg, and it averaged 27 mpg for the month. As the car is rated 24 city/33 highway, it's likely that we can do even better. Besides saving us money, this efficiency gives the Accord excellent cruising range. You can easily get 400 miles on a tank, and Erin drove 300 miles across the desert without worrying about stopping for gas. "

Personal gas mileage? When I drive on I-70 from my 4600 elevation city in western Colorado to Denver, I go up over Vail pass at 10,500 feet, down into Silverthorne at 8700 feet, then up again to 11,000+ feet for the tunnel, then down into Denver. With four of us, luggage, and AC on most of the way I get 32MPG. Around town 20-25, depending on how little I get out of the stop and go block to block traffic around town.

That stretch of I-70 is one of the more demanding stretches of interstate in the country--high altitude, speed limits of 50-75 all the way and steep long grades (numerous runaway truck ramps). I've done it four times since getting the car earlier in the year and it handles it easily, and when you nail it to the floor, no, it won't act like a four liter sports car, but it really works well.

This is going to sound strange, but here goes.... Most of the time I drive around town, achieving speeds of up to 40 miles per hour. That means most of the time the engine is at 1200-2000 RPMs, and I really have come to enjoy the subtle low speed thump/throb/purr that this 2.4 liter engine puts out.

In my motorcycles I've had two twins and also thoroughly enjoyed the BMW 1100RT I test rode. That connection--that gentle reminder of that jewel/engine under the hood--can give a remarkably satisfying driving experience. Sure I'd occasionally enjoy opening the throttle on the six, but I would really miss the great feel of the four down in the normal driving speeds where most of us live most of the time, and I would feel like having the six was a waste.

When I was younger I got enough speeding tickets to lose my license X2. I LIKE fast. But the 2.4 is an amazing engine for it's size.
