Post 2007 Honda Accord Airbag Light

Hi Honda Experts,

I have a lovely 2007 Honda Accord which drives very good. Unfortunately today I had an accident with another car. I bumped into a toyota corolla from behind and my front bumper cracked a little and has got scratches. But I am not worried about the bumper.

What worries me from this accident is the following.

1. I see a light lit up which I think is for Airbags(person sitting with seat belt and a circle in front of him). This never turns off.

2. I am unable to pull and buckle up my seat belt. It is stuck.

3. The passenger Airbag light is blinking on and off.

Other than the above three issues my car otherwise drives as it used to. i drove around hundred miles and do not see any problems as far as driving feel and mechanics goes.

Please can the experts comment on this and give me ome info on what may have happened during the accident and what I need to do as for ixing this and making sure all is well with my car.

Thanks,
Sid.

Sounds like the seat belt pre-tensioner detonated. If that is the case, the seat belt will need to be replaced at a minimum. You may have also damaged an impact sensor.

To start with, the car will need to be taken to a Honda dealership to have the SRS computer scanned with an HDS tool. This will tell you which parts require replacement.

You're looking at several hundred dollars worth of repairs at a minimum. Impact sensors are $45 each plus installation labor (including bumper removal). The seat belt itself can cost up to $300 plus installation labor. You'll also be charged for the computer scan and reset.

Is there a way I can get this done cheaper and avoid the dealership costs? I read somewhere that Autozone runs a free diagnostic test which gives the problem codes. Please advise

Thanks,
Sid

Go to an independent Honda specialist then. Make sure they have an HDS tool to scan and reset the SRS computer.

AutoZone's scanners can't read SRS codes on '03+ Accords. It must be done with an HDS.

There is no resetting the SRS unit after a deployment. It will have to be replaced. No diagnostic tools are needed to diagnose the problem. You need a seatbelt and SRS unit. If the impact sensor behind the bumper cover is damaged on that side, it will need to be replaced as well.

i know during accidents the srs unit has to be replaced. now my question is it mainly because the unit gets fired like maybe a voltage spike. or the unit will always have in memory that the vehicle was in an accident and wont erase the srs light? let me know the correct answer.

The DTC's are suppose to be permanent after a collision and the SRS light stays on. It probably is software related that Honda implemented. Even Honda's Service News is aware there are places that claim they can clear it. Honda probably doesn't want the liability of it not working in case of another collision.
