2004 accord, engine revs up and down
Hey so my cousin recently bought a used 2004 honda accord.
Now her car seems to rev up and down when it is idle and the CEL is on.
Since i have a integra gsr, I'm use to the paper clip trick to check out the CEL.
I've seemed to search the internet and have yet to find a way to do the paper clip trick for the 2004 accord.
Is there a way to do it or will I have to get a OBD2 scanner?
thanks

You'll need to get a scanner. Or find an Auto Zone auto parts store ... they will hook their scan tool to the OBDII connector & give you the code.

Check the coolant level in the radiator. Low coolant can cause a surging idle due to improper operation of the IAC valve.

ok I'll check the coolant level.
I heard that auto zone doesn't loan their scanners anymore because of a new law.
I'll try anyways and see what happens.

yeah the coolant was fine.
i went to kregans and they told me that I'd have to buy one to use it. 30 dollars for the cheap generic one that only flashes the code, or like 70 for the one that shows the code.
I'm going to tell my cousin to go see a mechanic unless there are other options?
