08 accord mystery droning noise
I have an 08 accord that has been causing nonstop problems for my mechanic.
late this past summer, heard a loud, droning noise that sounded like a wheel bearing when I went over 60 mph. I also needed to replace 2 tires, so I took it in to do both. Mechanic replaced one bearing that looked like it might be going bad, but the sound didn't change. He tried to replace the axel bearing twice, no change. Then he replaced the whole assembly. Still no change. He even replaced the transmission twice to get to that bearing. Still no change. And now that sound is beginning to come out when I'm going as low as 30 mph. Still just as loud as before. He's checked all of the wheel bearings, and can't figure out what it is. I'm hoping to help him out by coming here.
just replaced my power steering pump today, too. That didn't affect the sound, either. (Didn't think it would, but that was another problem I needed to take care of)

Re: 08 accord mystery droning noise
I should clarify something. My mechanic has not charged me for any of the repairs, save the original wheel bearing replacement, since nothing has actually fixed the problem. He is not making any money from this, and is probably more frustrated with my car than I am.

Re: 08 accord mystery droning noise
Thanks for the clarification. Although there cannot always be certainties in diagnosing issues, there are some mechanics out there they take too many guesses at the owner's expense.
Droning noise on the 8th generation Accords can be due to the wheel bearings. If that was not the case, after the tires were replaced, was an alignment done? Sometimes "cupped" tires can also cause a droning noise. For example, cupping on the inner part of the tire, which can be very subtle when looking at it to not even see it, can cause a droning noise. Take your hand and run it along the tire to feel if there is an unevenness along the circumference.
