I have an 03 Accord v6 auto that I bought recently. I got a great deal on the car with a blown headgasket, and it had a rebuilt auto trans with 7k miles on it. 4k miles later it is doing some crazy things and slipping on the 2-3 shift. I'm going to change the fluid this week with Honda atf but I am planning to have to replace the trans in the near future. I have been searching and have found no reference to anyone putting in a later trans in place of the problematic 03 trans. Does anyone know what the difference is b/w the 03-05 and 06-07 transmissions? Thery're about the same price used but the 06-07 is easier to find with low miles. Plus, it appears Honda corrected whatever problems they had by then.

What's the mileage on the car? Check with the dealership for goodwill replacement of the transmission or if it's still under warranty?

Best of luck, I hope you get a new transmission from those bastards for building such shitty transmissions for the accord since 98.

The car has 133k miles on it so I seriously doubt Honda would do anything. The trans was just rebuilt 11k miles ago by a reputable shop but they of course won't cover it since (1) the car was ran hot which resulted in the blown headgasket, and (2) ownership has changed since the trans was rebuilt.

I just want to find out some solid info about using the later trans before I spend money on one.

First get the headgasket fixed, and then try to see if they will fix your trans free since it is actually on a recall so the miles shouldn't really matter.

Whats your VIN? You can run it online to see if it's on a recall.

I'm not a 100% sure but I don't think the transmission is interchangeable

Looks like 2005 and up there were some changes with the engine/transmission, so I would only assume it's not possible but there's always a chance that with a few changes here and there, you could get it to work

i know this has nothing to do with your problem and im sorry for your bad luck with the trans. but im going to b putting a turbo kit and probably nitrous in my 04 accord v6. it has an auto trans. i was just wondering if i can upgrade the transmission or if i should swap it out for a better one to handle the added stress on it. the car only has about 48000 miles on it.

I wouldn't be so sure Honda fixed the transmission problems in the 06 models. I've been seeing more and more 06 Accords with the same problems.

It's a damn shame these transmissions are such garbage. The 3.0 is a great engine and makes good power. I love the car other than worrying about the auto trans.
I still haven't been able to find any info on any differences in the later transmissions. I found an 06 trans with 30k on it for the same price as an 03 trans with 90k. I would obviously rather have the later, lower mileage unit but it would sure suck to go through the trouble of putting it just to find it's not compatable.
