what is the difference between a dohc/sohc vtec and which is better in performance?

 

dohc is better for performance

 

2 main differences....correct me if im wrong...

SOHC Vtec is non fixed engagement point, and only changes the timing of the intake/duration vavles
DOHC Vtec is fixed engagment (ususally around 5kprm give or take 500prm), and changes the timing/duration of both exhaust and intake vavles

i believe the SOHC vtec was origionally designed for Hondas outboard marine motors. DOHC is definantly more performance oriented

The difference lies in the number of cams you have- DOHC(Dual Over Head Cams) SOHC (Single Over Head Cam)... which is what fw190bvi said in more detail

 

DUH....he wasnt asking which kinda engine was better, (DOHC vs SOHC), he was asking which VTEC was better......and BTW, there are times when SOHC is opted for over DOHC, and DOHC still gets pwned by QOHC (4 cam Toyota Sienna POWER!!)

 

The dohc (duel over head cam) has a vtec lobe on intake and exhaust side. The sohc (single over head cam) only have has a vtec lobe on just the intake side.

 

chillllll, was it totally incomprehensible why I would clear that up knowing that people come on here asking "Should I use a CAI or Short Ram intake for Turbo?"
